Taking of Pelham One Two Three

This 1974 film, directed by Joseph Sargent, is about 4 heavily armed guys who hijack a subway train in NYC. It stars Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw, Martin Balsam, and Hector Elizondo. Matthau plays the head of the NYC transit police, and Shaw the head of the gang. Dick O'Neill and Jerry Stiller also co-star. Even Doris Roberts has a small part in this film.

The gang quickly and precisely makes their demands known. They have hostages, and seem serious to carry out their threats. What no one from Matthau's team can figure out is how the robbers expect to escape, being underground in such a large city.

Most of the film is very dark in lighting, but the acting and intrigue keep me interested for this 105 minute film. There is nothing fancy, just a good plot and a good storyline. I loved the way it ended.

I give this film a:

Geez - this takes me WAY back. Was always a Walter Mathau fan (love the Grumpy Old Men series).

I remember when the film first came out - iot arrived without much hooplah. But I loved it for exactly the same reasons you did - was an interesting movie from beginning to end, and the ending was great...

I, too, give it a thumbs up!!!
