I think I went a little overboard on my peppers

Rate this Entry
I went to the local hardware store last week and got this year’s assortment of peppers for the garden. I think I got a little excited. I like to start my peppers a little bit earlier then the rest of the crop to give them a head start before I put them in the ground in early April. I ended up planting 12 varieties for a total of 48 plants. I’m probably going to end up giving some of them away to friends and family.

Anaheim x 4
Banana x 4
Bell (2 varieties) x 6
Cascabella x 4
Cayenne x 4
Cubanelle x 4
Habanero x 4
Jalapeno M x 6
Joe. E Parker x 4
Poblano x 4
Serrano x 4

I still have the tomatoes, squash, zucchini, herbs and corn left to plant. I think I’m going to sow the corn outside though. The Garlic and Onions are already out in the garden and doing great.

You must love hot sauce! My grandparents would plant several different peppers every year. I miss having that fresh garden around.

Excellent. I never have much luck with peppers.

I tried to go about half sweet / half hot, but I do love spiciness. Nothing like running out side in the summer time and grabbing just about all you need for some salsa.

I've got some Chiltepin's outside that I pick from all the time - nice and hot!

It seems to be working fine, I got it set on a timer so it runs for 16 hours a day. I'm kind of wondering if I should have gotten a heating pad as well. I keep the house at ~68-70, but I've been reading that peppers like it a little warmer to germinate. I guess I'll find out late next week.
