Project Humidor Re-Stock

Rate this Entry
This is just a blog where I can record the journey I am now on to re-build the contents of my once fairly healthy footlocker humidor. At the top of my cigar smoking life, I had three humidors and I had about 400 cigars. Yeah, I know this isn't very many compared to a lot of people that post here, but it's a good amount to me.

This journey is NOT about people sending me cigars. I don't want any of that sort of thing to happen. I may request someone to buy some cigars that are expensive here in D.C. on my behalf as I've done in the past, but that is the limit of the assistance I will accept. In fact, I was hesitant to even start this blog because I feared someone might think I was "fishing" for gifts or some such B.S. Of course, I don't think those that knew me in the past would question my integrity or pure intentions in any way.

I am a bit of a planner. I like to plan what I want to do and then accomplish it. So, this little project won't be any different. I was thinking about what I wanted in my humidor, if I could have it stocked any way I wanted. The thought occurred to me that it is completely possible to put exactly what I want in my humidor. While money is one of the major obstacles, it isn't over the course of time. In fact, I think it will take about a year and a half to get things the way I want them. I will post an entry later that will be my planned humidor stock list. A few things are sure; I know what I like to smoke; and I know there are cigars that I haven't smoked that I will also like. With that in mind, if you see me post a cigar I like and you know a cigar that is similar that I didn't post, please let me know so I can try it.

Here is my finalized initial list of cigars I want in my humidor:

My local shop had a sale today. The Oliva rep is trying to get rid of some of the NUBs. It was buy one box and get one box free. These are Ashaulers favorite smokes btw. I think he buys them just to support Sam Leccia though.

Anyway, I got a box of the NUB Habano 466 and a box of the Cain F 460 for $170. Not my typical ring gauge preference, but they are damn good smokes.

Anyway, I highly recommend the Cain F, whichever vitola you choose.

I haven't tried any of the Nubs, but the Cain F has the types of tobacco in it that I like. Perhaps, I'll give one a try. I just bought a 10-pack of the Cain Habano Robustos which have nearly the same description (minus size) of the Cain F's. I'm not supposed to be buying any more cigars for a while, but damn it, sometimes I just HAVE to! I got to get the cigars in my humi so they can age a little....how am I gong to do that without buying them??? Right?!

    Right!

On a funny (to me) side note. In the box of the F's, there was a card with a chance to win a brand new 2011 Corvette. I think my boxes may have a bit of age on them already.

I like the Cain Daytona for what it's worth, specifically the robusto.

I do too, but not enough to keep them stocked. I don't get anything like the O Bold from them though.

Yeah, well 1) I wasn't into cigars yet for prime time O Bold and 2) No, I wasn't trying to draw a comparison.

Speaking of Daytonas, I just saw holts running a 15freebie cigar deal if you get a box. 20ish dollars more than my shop, but probably worth it with the freebees.

So, did you like the O bold? I smoked about 4 boxes of them in total. The only thing that stopped me from buying more was that I didn't have room at the time in my humidor. Famous had about 6 boxes of them left at the time they were going out of stock and they were $50 each. I bought two, but wish I had cleaned them out. OK, I ALSO didn't have the money to buy more than two, but I prefer the no room in my humidor excuse which was ALSO true.

Yes, I did enjoy the O bold very much.
