I'm still learning what I like and don't like, so for a while my purchases will be small quantities of a variety of cigars, like samplers, so I'm not ready for make a coolerdor or anything too large or elaborate, a 50ish humidor would probably suit me fine for now. I've seen such for sale online for about $50-$75, but I've also seen online articles saying you'd be better off dropping your cigars in the nearest trash can and saving the time and effort of storing them in such a humidor. Is that true, or was it just written by someone who makes expensive humidors for a living? Would I be better off buying the humidifier, hydrometer, and a spanish cedar cigar box and putting them in a tupperware container?

Thanks in advance!

I am just putting the finishing touches on my newly sheetrocked living room and my dame is giving me guff regarding my habit of smoking indoors, i cant say I blame her, but alas, I enjoy smoking in my chair in front of the TV. So, I figure an air purifier might be a good compromise. I've been eyeballing the Csonka pro(around 300$)

http://www.csonka.com/beta/popup_con...oaker-pro.html

As per the last meaningful air purifier thread here
http://www.cigarsmokers.com/threads/...Remover-Review
I looked up the Friedrich unit, I'm a little turned off at the price though (500+$), and the size/look of the unit.

Anyone have any experience with the csonka or have any other thoughts?

Now before you guys tell me to shoot the dog and sell the wife, bear in mind she did buy me the Humi, but one day when she wasn't watching the little guy he managed to get away and use 3 of the four legs on the humi as a chew toy and knawed about a quarter inch mark into them. I was wondering if there was anyway I can sand this down fill it in re finish it with out doing the whole Humidor or do I just have to deal with the blemish.
Thanks in advance.
I bought an end table type humidor and during the summer months (I live in Austin, TX) it's literally impossible to keep my house below 75... Right now we're averaging 100 outside temps for a couple weeks in a row now...ugh.

Anyway, my new table will go in my office where it's nice and dark, no direct sunlight - my current 150 count humi stays at 75/65 in here - but I haven't had it all that long to know what the long term effects, if any, are at keeping stoges at that temp/RH.

Anyway, I've got a couple pounds of both 60 and 70 beads coming from HF, I've got an Oasis XL - so RH is not going to be an issue. I just dont think, that at least for about half the year I'll be able to keep my humidor below 75. I know everyone likes to keep theirs about 10 degrees cooler than that when possible - just curious what folks think about it. If my temps are higher - that's why I'm thinking about going with 60% beads instead of 65 or 70%.

Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone!
I recently purchased a end-table humidor - fantastic quality...and can't wait to get it.

Just curious though - anyone have any ideas or recommendations on how to keep an average 70 degree temp in there? I keep my house around 76 and my current 150 count humidor stays at 78 degrees and I occasionally stick it in my deep freeze in the garage for an hour or so to lower the temps for a few days.

I see whole fridge type scenarios (wine fridges, etc...) but it's a little late for that? Does Ice Gel or what not work in a somewhat larger humidor like this? I would guess the issue here is that that they just aren't going to last long enough to make it worthwhile? Are there any automatic temp units that are similar to the auto humidity units?

Hi all,
I'm new to this site but have been smoking cigars for about 5 years. I am living in St. Cloud, FL now and have just purchased an Avanti 28 bottle wine fridge to use as a temperature controlled humi (yeah, I looked at that Monolith 1200 humi but just can’t see spending $1,800+ on it right now, especially as I can’t find any other info about the company or the reliability/build quality of the thing). Also I will be buying some cedar trays and shelves from chasidorhumidors.com to use for storage and to help retain some of the moisture.

My main question is this.... how do I maintain 70% humidity in this thing with the thermoelectric unit running? I have a Cigar Oasis XL in a 300 count humi now and it works fine but I am sure it will not be able to handle the humidity demand in the cooler. I have seen other people talk about using beads in a cooler but wasn’t sure if they meant a fridge/cooler or just a regular Igloo type cooler.

I am planning on putting in 3 double high trays at the bottom of the cooler for single cigar storage and then 2 shelves above that for box storage. For now I am thinking of buying a Cigar Oasis XL Plus and supplementing it with 2 or 3 pounds of beads (1 pound in the bottom tray, another in the middle and the 3rd on the top shelf).
Oh yeah, right now the fridge is empty except for 2 wire racks, 2 digital hygrometers and 1 empty cigar box. I have been monitoring the fridge all day and the bottom has been reading 52% humidity & 68 degrees, the top of the fridge has been reading 54% humidity and 71-72 degrees (which is right where I want it).
Does anyone here have any experience with humidifying a wine cooler or other temperature controlled humi? Thanks for any input.

I don't have central air in my house. I have window air conditioners in different rooms in my house. These do not run all the time. They only run when I am home. I am from Iowa so it gets warm in my house during the day.I am wondering if I should keep my humidor in a room that doesn't have one of these air conditioners. The reason I ask is because air conditioners remove the humidity in the air. Would it be better to have my humidor in a room that is air conditioned part of the day when I am home or would it be better to keep it in a room that is more constant in temperature. I am concerned about the cigars being affected by large swings in temperature. I don't know if the humidity in the humidor would be affected if it is in a room that is air conditioned. Also, what about them little bugs that they say can ruin cigars if the temperature is to high. What does everyone think of this?

This is my first post here.

What I am looking for is a Man O' War ash tray. I think the helm would make for a pretty righteous ashtray, and it would only come out when I smoked cigars. Does anyone know if something from that brand name exists ashtray wise? If you do, please be so kind as to point me in the right direction.

Thanks!
