I'm working on "Wittgenstein's Poker" by David Edmonds and John Eidinow.
My first bowl of Chelsea Morning (and in fact my first non-Captain Black). All kinds of trouble keeping it lit, but a decent smoke otherwise.
Some Captain Black Gold in my new briar.
For anyone else who comes across this: I went ahead and smoked it today, and I couldn't detect the Bakelite smell at all. The tobacco totally hid it, so no worries.
Welcome from Maryland.
I'm working my way through both Top Gear and Futurama on Netflix streaming.
One of my new briars has what I think is a Bakelite stem: it has an acrid smell if you rub it hard with your thumb, and it will turn a rum-soaked paper towel yellow-brown if you rub it. The problem...
I'm the first one to buy a new pipe in over a year? Seems unlikely.
My first briars arrived today. Inexpensive estate pipes from eBay, but they'll be a step up from my drugstore corncob.

Smoked a stick the other day I didn't care for; seemed to be all smoke and no taste. I let my wife have a puff (she's never smoked a whole cigar) and she tasted coffee. :-( I'm offering up prayers...
I loved both Ender's Game and Old Man's War.
I'm trying to get into both The Pencil by Henry Petroski and The Road To Serfdom by Friedrich Hayek.
Two this week, my first cigars of 2012. Discovered my liquor store has a wall humidor stuffed in the back. Bought an H. Upmann Connoisseur and a CAO Gold churchill. Smoked the Connoisseur on Saturday...
They all smoke indoors, so duration shouldn't be an issue (I may bring short stories or something just in case). Given how the apartment reeks of cigarettes, I'm hopeful a cigar might not even be...
For Thanksgiving this year we will be with my wife's brother and sister and step-mother and her family. The whole family smokes (cigarettes) constantly; they roll their own and usually have piles of...
Here's mine a week or two ago. Needs straightened up, but it's basically all there. PC tower is against the wall, under the stereo. It's a window + lights deal, but it was the right price and size so...
Oohh... that's what I thought was an old-school alarm clock :smiley1:
Next try: on the dryer in the corner, to the right of the Dell, is some figurado cigar standing on its head, foot pointing...
On the bottom shelf above the bench, on top of the alarm clock?
Oh, and thanks for the contest!
Yesterday, breakfasttime: half a CAO Gold Vintage (time constraints stopped me). I did like it, with a nice big cup of coffee. Very simple in flavor, at least as far as I can tell. I'd smoke it again.
Assuming you are content that I'm not an asshole...
on the right-hand stool, on top of the... whatever it is that's on the stools.
Acid Blondie - rare smoke with my wife who wanted something flavored. Honestly, I didn't dislike the Acid, but I would have much preferred something unflavored; glad I'm at the point in my cigar life...
Ah, right, rust. I hadn't considered that part - was only thinking of how the case could harm the cigars, not the other way around. There is already some rust on the outside, but looks like only a...
Is there any problem with using metal for a humidor? Any smells imparted on the cigars, etc? I did a search of the forum, and didn't see any discussion on this topic yet.
I am looking into...
Deer Tick - Born on Flag Day
Now reading Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman; some funny stories, and his fascinating thinking process documented.
My second Short Story. Liked it quite a bit more than the first (pretty sure that was my fault - no drink, not relaxing, and may have lit it badly). Paired with Hennessey and a good book out on my...
