Friedrich C-90 Air Purifier - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I mentioned to a few of you that I had ordered an air purifier for the office and promised to let you know how it was working.

Before I ordered anything I did a bunch of research. What I found was that the Ionic Breeze by Sharper Image (the first one that came to mind) was basically useless. It didn't move enough air to be effective. As I started looking I found that many of the personal purifiers just didn't have the capacity to clear smoke, Then I found the Fredreich C90. It is a large floor unit, about the size of a small pet carrier and looks similar. It is 19' high, 15" wide and 21 1/2" deep and needs to sit at least 8" from the wall. I bought a used unit from ebay (a C90-A - the newer unit is a C90-B and is supposed to be a little better) and when I got it I plugged the puppy in, closed the door, hit the high button and lit up a stick.

This thing does a great job. My office is probably about 10 X 15 with standard 8' ceilings. When smoking the cigar there was absolutely no smoke buildup in the room. When I was finished I put it on low and kept the room closed up until the next morning. When I opened the door the next day there was absolutely no smoke or cigar odor left in the room. There was quite a bit of the odor that you get with the new ionic purifiers, but that went away a few minutes after I shut it off. Pauline didn't even know that I had a cigar in the house the night before.

I have used it 2-3 times a week for the past 2 weeks or so and it is great. Here is a link to the operating guide and specs. I would highly recommend the unit to anyone who wants to have a cigar or cigarette inside without stinking the place up.

Oh how I would love to have a Friedrich. The smoke and smell is the only thing keeping me from enjoying a cigar on any occasion. But I definetly don't have the pocket change for something like that. I see them running $400 even on ebay. Are there any cheaper models that do close as good?

Be very careful of purchasing Ionizing air purifiers. Especially if you have allergies or asthma. There are only 2 that are recommend by Consumer Reports and any other website articles I've read. They are the Friedrich C-90A and Whirlpool 45030{+1}.

I personally would like to try the Friedrich, but I've had problems with my lungs in the past when I've been around other ionizers.

I read the same articles, which is why I decided to go with the Fredreich. Actually, the room sized Ionic breeze ($399+shipping) is more than what I paid for the Fredreich ($292 with shipping.) Even the midi size Ionic Breeze is a bit more expensive ($299.) Granted, I'm comparing new to used, but that doesn't matter to me, as long as the unit works well. I've also noticed that the dust buildup in the room has ben reduced to almost nothing. Colorado is really dry so there is a lot of dust in the air.
