    Default I am new.... "EH!!!"

    Hey all... Canadian newbie here...

Couple of rookie questions that I'd like to get some answers to:

    1. Living in Toronto Canada, wanted to know if there were any locals that might be able to refer me to a good cigar store (good variety, reasonable prices). Looking for a place where I can go in and get a feel for what I like/don't like without the snooty knucklehead turning his nose down at me... also don't want to limit myself to just the cuban selection that most Toronto shops have.

    2. Set up my humidor a few months ago with a analog hygrometer and sponge humidifier... thoughts on beads and digital hygrometer? Worth the money? Seems to be a wide price range... are the cheaper ones just as good?

    3. Why won't any of the online cigar shops (in Canada) ship cigars to me in Ontario? Is there some rule that I am unaware of?

    4. Have the majority of my smokes on the golf course/patio... in the wind matches are just impossible to properly cook and light my smokes... what is most recommended? i have seen torch lighters (butane) but are there any differences between them? I don't want to spoil the taste with improper lighting.

    4. Would appreciate if some of you vets could throw out some recommendations on a variety of sticks that I should try out... most enjoyed a nice Hoyo de Monterrey Robusto to date.

Thanks guys... i'm sure i'll have a ton more questions coming later....

Welcome from Central Oregon. I'm new here as well, and really don't feel qualified to answer many of your questions. This is a great board - I've learned lots. Even if there isn't a recent post, I will go back and read old threads. The search tool is valuable at finding previously posted information.

I know the guys at my B&M love humidifiers, but this board undoubtedly loves beads, from what I can tell. I am about to order some myself, I'm just tired of the hassle of keeping the sponge damp. I have two analogs hygrometers but am about to buy a digital.

I have a dual-torch butane lighter, which I now regret purchasing. I personally would much rather have a single torch. That's my personal opinion, however.

I am not a vet, but I have really been enjoying Romeo y Julieta's and Partagas Black cigars as of late.

I see you've already hit up the Newbie Sampler board.

    Welcome again!

    Welcome to the Board, EH??

1./ You ain't gonna find a cigar store in Canada with "Reasonable" prices. Case closed, forget about it.

2./ Beads are awesome, and don't scrimp on a cheap digital, IMHO. You're better off with a salt-tested analog.

3./ You don't want to buy from Canadian On-Line retainers. You'll get a trip to Cuba for cheaper than the taxes you'll get nailed for.

4./ I would recommend either a Z-Plus insert for a Zippo, or a decent dual flame torch. Plenty of posts here about properly lighting. You PMed me about the Newbie Sampler. I'll toss in a single flame torch for you if we work something out. I have a spare.

5./ (4A??) I'll hook you up with a nice selection per your PM.

Again, welcome and spend plenty of time reading. Lot'sa great info here.

I believe that the problem is that shipping tobacco between provinces is illegal, probably because it's one of the things that the province taxes not the feds. Also most online prices will not have the customs taxes and duties included since they are being shipped out of the country and not technically imported here.

    Welcome to the board.
If you have some spare time and don't mind driving a little I recommend taking a trip to Niagara falls. 20 minutes from the boarder, on the American side, there's a sweet shop called Smokin' Joes. Great selection and prices. Just make sure to keep them hidden from the boarder partol on the way home.
