    Lightbulb Love/Hate Relationship

With all the new cigar purchases I have been making I havn't been finding the time to do reviews on all of them and for a newbie who is looking to try a new cigar it is hard to skim all the reviews and find one that fits what they want. SO

I came up with the Love It / Hate It system.

    1. Put Love It at the top of the page, and Hate it at the bottom.

    2. Begin by listing the cigars that you absolutely love and must have on hand at all times or else the world will stop spinning.

    3. Work your way down the list by putting the ones you like, then are so/so, then dislike, and so on.

4 Finally, finish the list with the cigars that you dispise and wish that a forest fire would wipe out the entire region where they are produced.

Seems simple enough I hope. Now people can look at each persons post and get a good idea of what to try and what to stay away from at a quick glance.

    I will go first.......

    Love It
    Oliva Serie G Maduro
    Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 Maduro
    Rocky Patel Sun Grown
    Perdomo Lot 23 Maduro
    Rocky Patel Rosado
    Sol Cubano Maduro
    Cao Maduro
    Cohiba Black
    Ashton Aged Maduro
    Cao Gold Maduro
    Flor De Oliva Maduro
    Cao Mx2
    Padron Aniversario Maduro
    Romeo Y Julieta Reserve Maduro
    Cusano 18
    Cao Cx2
    Avo Maduro
    Drew Estate
    Acid

I too am a newb... and would love to see what others like.

Unfortunately I don't have a list... I have somewhat enjoyed every cigar I have smoked.

I do have a love / hate relationship with a single cigar...

Baccarat 1871 Dolce Far Niente Toro

The first one I had, didn't like it at all... didn't burn even, tasted overly sweet... but, since I had another in my humidor, I tried it again... and really liked it! I purchased several to keep in the humidor (at very least to give out to people who don't really smoke cigars)... and really liked them. Then just had one this weekend, and didn't like it.

Anyhow, not sure if it is the mood I am in, or the quality control of the Baccarat, but it is a love / hate relationship alright!

I kinda enjoy spending time on the board, reading reviews and researching smokes, and spending time with my BOTL's.

You can get my likes / dislikes from my reviews and posts.

My list is divided right down the middle in black and white

    Love it
    Women
    Cigars
    Beer
    ---------------
    rap music
    Cigarettes
    Mondays
    Hate It

Actually, my list changes so much, putting it in writing may tend to limit me somehow.. Too many good cigars out there!

    Rock On though!

They are VERY expensive by the box!

Even a fiver can create storage problems... I usually just pick up singles when I can, smoke them, and flick they're butts out into the street!

The problem is this - you'll find with some more experience as your palate develops and you begin to recognize flavors, that cigars you thought you didn't like, you'll suddenly like, and you might not even know why. I've found that I enjoy a much larger variety of flavors than what initially fit in my little newbie taste box. Generally, unless we're talking about machine made "cigars" or really cheap crap handmades, I don't have a deep hatred for any cigars off the top of my head...

That's a very good point Arty!

If I really think about it, there are very few cigars that I didn't enjoy on some level. Only one cigar marketed as at least semi-premium that I had a bad experience with the flavor.. damn Helix think in a blue tube.

    That White Owl doesn't count.

I find that as long as I stick with the reputable manufacturers, and construction is acceptable, a cigar will provide me enjoyment.

lmao....I still have a Paso Doble in my humi to remind me of the days I didn't know any better. I look at it every once in a while and shake my head and shudder.

    Thompsons house brands.....ahh, the memories.

    I agree.

Although I don't HATE most hand-rolled cigars, there are definitely some that I would just as soon avoid. Some of them, if I had to choose between that particular cigar to smoke, or to not smoke at all, I might choose the latter.

    Default thanks

Well i guess i should say thanks to all of you who have come before me who have tried everything and can warn us what to stay away from. And its cool that you guys don't like the love it/hate it idea. I was just making an attempt to make it a little more "new guy" friendly.

P.S. I really like those Women cigars. But i can't decide which is better, the Maduro or the Connecticut. Ones dark, creamy, and lushous, and the other is light, tight, and bitchy.........well, they are dammit

Wow dude, don't go all Cutler on us. If you're going to get all sensitive and defensive over something as small as this you're in for a rough stay if someone actually decides to bust your balls.

    Default thanks again

Well if someone does decide to bust my balls then they are welcome to give it a shot. Didn't mean to sound defensive about it. I guess since most of you don't know my personality that well yet then maybe joking around wasn't the thing to do, but i thought it was funny. My purpose here is not to offend people or take offense to what others say, i just want to learn more about enjoying cigars.

You don't think it offensive to the community to try and change things right after you first join us, do you?

We'd certainly hate to disappoint you. Maybe you should get to know everyone before you bust balls...
