    Default Quick Trivia Question

I was listening to the radio this morning and there was a guest speaker on a show talking about cigars. He came out with a few facts that seemed interesting. I am using them as questions for this simple contest.

    Rules:
    - 50 posts or more needed to take part in this
    - Both questions have to be correct in order to win
    - I will offer "Hot/Cold" references to all submissions.

    Prize:
3 sticks from my humi (gotta get rid of some blunts and macanudos ) j/k. It'll be something good I promise.

    Deadline:
This will be a quickie, Thursday, Jan 7. 2010 by 5:00 pm Central Time

    Ready?????? GO!

    1. Should you take the band off a cigar before lighting it? Why or why not? (Personal preference does not count) This should be an easy one.
    2. What is the history of the "cigar band"? Why was it originally introduced?

    1. No, the band is intended to add to the experience of the cigar by looking down the cigar with the band on it while smoking it.
    2. The bands are a sort of family crest representing the original families that made cigars.

    Those are my guesses!

I really need to get 50 posts...I feel like I could win this one, or at least that second question. Good luck guys. I will keep reading to see if my original idea is correct.

    1. No you don't take the band off before lighting it, it may tear the wrapper. it also lets people know your not smoking a cheap cigar.
you should or can take the band off when it burns down close to it, The heat will loosen the glue and lessen the chance of messing up your cigar.

    2. the cigar band was started to lessen the chance of counterfeiting cigars from Cuba. It also added a way to recognize different brands/company that made the cigars

No, the band stays on for the same reason it was originally created.

Bands were developed to prevent tobacco staining of fingers, particularly women's fingers.

    1. No, you need that sucker on so you know which end to light

    2. I think Dennis might be right, but I think it was also meant to help keep the cigar held together.

Thanks for the contest - hopefully people read the rules (and follow them) - grrr...

But my original #1 was a better answer I think...

    1. The cigar band should never be removed, its to keep your drool from running down the cigar and putting it out when smoking a tasty Cuban.

    2. same as number 1.

    Thanks for the contest, Nelson.

    1) Take that band off, especially on Gurkha perfectos. Then, you can be confused on which end to light, and subsequently hop on chat to ask BWA what to do. Of course, it will still unravel.

    2) The cigar band created as a response to devine intervention by the God of Tobacco. Its purpose is to keep the God of Tobacco happy with cool designs & varying sizes. The God of Tobacco is picky, and believes that the spice of life is variety.

That's o.k., when you get past 50, everyone will just add the good old, "Can't be an asshat" qualifier.

1.Never take the band off the cigar. It is seen as a status symbol and enables you to look down on anyone who isn't smoking a Macanudo. They are clearly lesser than you.

2.The bands came about to give the members of high society another way to keep down the peasants who could not afford the bands.

The band should not be removed before smoking because the glue might tear the cigar wrapper.

The band was originated to keep the tabacco from staining fingers or gloves.

    thanks for the contest Nelson
