Thumbs up Quad State Herf VI - Saturday, Aug 20th Location: Round Pond Rec Area, West Point, NY

Well, we have locked down the date for this year's Quad State Herf. It will be Saturday, August 20th from 1000 (10am) until dusk (roughly 2000/8PM) and the location is West Point's Recreational Area (Round Pond). It will be a day of relaxing, enjoying great BBQ (prepared by Sean Keever and his crew - Muzzle Brake BBQ) and a number of outdoor events, i.e., volleyball, basketball, horse shoes, fishing, swimming, paddleboating and much more. The recreation area is large enough to comfortably accommodate 200 - 250 guests.

The cost to attend the Quad State Herf is the same it was last year, $50.00 per person (half for food and drink and the other half for the "benefit"). As always, the West Point Warrior Transition Unit (Wounded Warriors) will be the benefit. Lastly, each guest will receive a very nice "goodie bag" and there will be plenty of stuff being raffled off at the event.

Below is a map of the area as well as Round Pond's website:

    http://www.westpointmwr.com/ACTIVITY...OR/Roundpd.htm

The actual address for the area is: 1348 Round Pond Road, West Point, NY 10996.

Hmm, it is only seven hours to drive there ...

ETA: According to the website (and the sign at the gatepost), the facility is a restricted area: "Active duty and retired military personnel, Air National Guard and Reserve personnel, family members of the above, DOD and retired civilian employees, and cadets are eligible to use MWR facilities. Proper identification may be requested by staff."

Now, I understand that the event itself can be made public (although it isn't on the list of events quite yet), but can herfers use the rest of the facilities there? Can we make camping reservations?

And, finally ... admittance may be restricted to US citizens only (unless the foreigner(me) is on official business and is escorted). I have learned the hard way that most DOD locations are restricted in this manner, even recreational ones. I have no issue with that; I just need to know before I start planning! Thanks.

    Funny stuff Buzz.

I'll be attending this year. I think that I will drive myself though. It will be a cold day in Hell before I show up in a mini van!

The sign is to keep the riff-raff out, LOL. If you want to reserve a tent site, let me know and I'll do it for you. Also, there is a number of hotels in the immediate area as well.

There is no problem with your admittance to the event as the recreation area is actually of the the main post of West Point.

Lastly to everyone, I have updated the initial post and I'll start the guest soon as well.......

Thanks! Sounds great! The gf is busy that weekend, so I'm in. I'll PM you about camping. I can't drink and drive, and well, I want to drink! :-)

Anyone else thinking of camping? Or a motel/hotel? I just automatically thought of camping as the only place that I can smoke outside of the house is ... outdoors.
