Post MEGA Review: Dawn (Davidoff Millennium Robusto)

    About the cigar:

Name: ....... Millennium ...............Wrapper: .... Ecuadorian
Country: .... Nicaragua ................Binder: ..... Dominican
Type: ....... Robusto ..................Filler: ..... Dominican
    Size: ....... 5.25x50 ..................Price: ...... $16.91

    Information from Serious Cigars:
The experience accumulated over the years has provided us with the know-how required to produce a new type of cigar made from a balanced blend of stronger tobaccos. The Davidoff Millennium Blend is easy to distinguish from other Davidoff cigars due to its dark wrapper. The wrapper leaves are taken from a rare variety of tobacco cultivated specially for Davidoff in the tropical sunshine of Ecuador. In terms of strength, too, this cigar is in a class of its own, thanks to its blend of the finest ripe tobaccos from choice locations.

    MISCELLANEOUS:

badwhale: Colorado maduro shade wrapper. Nice construction. Not too much prelight scent. Oily musty flavor on cut prelight taste.
buzz: Sitting out on an absolutely beautiful night, playing guitar and singing to the sky. Man my voice sucks - I sound like a duck choking on a marble. Sipping some Laphroaig 18 year... very, very nice scotch. I'll be honest - I hope this cigar is a huge let down.
Mangyrat: Listening to the smoke detector go off.
MemphisFred: Standing outside watching it rain.
nhab: Out of humi @ 68% RH.
slcraiders: Cap work was not the best... foot also had some shaggy like cracking on the wrapper.
TachyCoventry: Dawn had a slight break at the head of the stick after I cut it. A little moisture held it right in place.
Tdre977: Just finished up some dinner & relaxin.

    prelight taste:

    badwhale: oily, must flavor.
buzz: wood and spice, but very faint - maybe some sweetness to it.
    craig: not much, some aroma.
egq: nothing - barely any scent.
    heftysmokes: light, sweet tobacco.
    logan37: very earthy. Aka dirt.
    mangyrat: earthy and tobacco.
memphisfred: perfumey! Wasn't sure so i asked the wifey to give it a smell. She said it reminded her of a pawpaw cologne... Shrug!
mizicke5273: hints of fruit with either a woody or nutty after taste.
    nhab: sweet.
slcraiders: i am semi-congested so hard to tell? Smelled like straight up tobacco to me...
tachycoventry: slight sweetness with a hint of spice.
    -------------------------------------------------------------

    taste (1/3):

badwhale: oily. Woodsy and a spice like pepper. A little leather... Burns fast, but cool. Flavors have mellowed a bit into a slightly toothy combo. Mild to medium body. Mostly woodsy flavor to me.
buzz: great amount of smoke - draw is a little loose, which i prefer. Spicier than i expected, though a muted spice. It has a good taste. Dangit.
craig: a hard cigar to light, but after that, oh my. There is almost too much oil on the wrapper. After the initial blast, the cigar settles down into a basic good cigar.
egq: awww, jeez - please tell me this isn't going to be like carolyn... Grassy/hay flavors very strong on the first few pulls - mellowed a bit, but they lingered for the rest of the smoke.
heftysmokes: easy, borderline too easy draw, flaky ash, copious smoke. Nice earthy flavors... Not woody, but more like damp leaves.
irish79: woodsy, sort of creamy. Good amount of smoke. Slightly tight on the draw.
logan37: very nice spice so far. Huge nutty flavor with a woody finish.
memphisfred: had a nice woody taste.
mizicke5273: strong initial spice with a decent amount of smoke. The spice continued to pick up strength and then began to die down towards the end of first 3rd.
    nhab: mild. No flavor.
slcraiders: wow - ample spice on the start. The draw is on the easy side like a 5 vegas a. Subtle hints of leather - but mainly spice - white pepper i would call it.
tachycoventry: creamy with a hint of spice. Nice stick so far! The spice really hits hard on the nose exhale!
tdre977: nice subtle spice, maybe nutmegish. Burning very uneven.
    -------------------------------------------------------------

    taste (2/3):

badwhale: woodsy, spicy, oily. Oily being the dominant now. Not bad. Toothy, a bit. Solid medium body now.
buzz: tastes are dying down a tad. Oily and woody, spice is gone but the taste is still very good. Dangit.
craig: not much changing or complexity going on. Good flavour.
egq: more of the same. Seemed like the flavor began to transition, but we ended right back where we began.
heftysmokes: flavors opening up now. If it wasn't for the ash down the front of my shirt, this would score an easy a. Earthy taste punctuated with slightly sweet cocoa notes. Tons of smoke, heavy on the tongue.
irish79: more of the same. I'm liking this smoke.
logan37: spice mellowed out quite a bit on the draw. Taste turned earthy and the finish came with a nice peppery bite on it.
memphisfred: nutty, nose exhale made me think of peanut butter cookies baking... Lol nice!
mizicke5273: the strong spicy flavor from the first part has gave way to a strong tobacco flavor, which stayed steady until the cigar became harsh at the end of the 2nd 3rd.
    nhab: no flavor.
slcraiders: mellows nicely. Somewhat creamy now - i love the heavy volume of almost pure white smoke. Loses a lot of flavor suddenly at the midway point.
tachycoventry: cream died off but the spice kept up strong, this is an awesome stick that i'm really enjoying!
tdre977: burn evened itself out, spice is more prominent now, but still smooth.
    -------------------------------------------------------------

    taste (3/3):

badwhale: same profile, but a little more harsh. Had to put it down somewhere in here to go help make dinner. Sheesh...
buzz: ok, taste went away but the cigar never got harsh. The last third was boring. Man, this scotch is good though.
craig: picking up strength. Purging helps bring the flavours back.
egq: didn't get far into the last 1/3 - after carolyn, i have no tolerance for grassy/hay tones - just not my thing.
heftysmokes: more of the same, flavorwise. Not a lot developing but the heat and my buzz... Good enough to nub however.
logan37: big spice coming out now. Taste was nutty and slightly grassy. Nice leathery, spicy finish.
memphisfred: ugh! This last half went floral/perfumey. This must have been what the wife was smelling.
    mizicke5273: continually became harsher.
    nhab: cheap cigar.
slcraiders: burn issues self corrected, but the cigar died at that typical 2/3 to 3/4 point where i find more than 50% of the cigars i smoke tend to do. I purged and relit. It is still lighter than the start but closer to the first section of the second third. Spice is dying down to a standard earthy tobacco taste with another tiny hint of leather. Still at least medium strength and smooth, but losing it's character...
tachycoventry: the spice eased up a little bit but was still there in the 3/3 but amazingly i had a little of the cream come back into it!
tdre977: creamy, still has a real nice spice on the nose exhale, maybe some chocolate notes?

    last words:

badwhale: i try not to think... However, i was thinking, i guess i need my preconceived notions to enjoy shit.
buzz: worth $17? Nope. Whew. For the money i would buy some padron annys instead. The stick wasn't bad though - i'd buy a box at $8/stick. Did i mention that this scotch is good?
craig: a good cigar worthy of being called a premium cigar. Not as good as carolyn.
egq: eh - what else is there to say? Me no likey...
heftysmokes: very good, not great smoke. I'd like to try it in a different vitola.
irish79: nubbed this sucker using roach clips. Loved it.
logan37: "mom, this is dawn." i'm convinced that this is an oliva serie v. However i don't think that this particular vitola is made in the v family. Unless my ring gauge meter is way off. But i'll price it as such anyway.
mangyrat: nice cigar to start the day off. But the wife didn't appreciate me smoking it inside the house.
memphisfred: length & ring size were more my liking, and the first two thirds were pretty nice. That last third killed it though.
nhab: cheap cigar. Fast burner. No real pronounced flavors, mostly light grass.
slcraiders: would consider a fiver or a box if the price was right, but would not personally drop more than $4-$5 bucks a stick for this cigar.
tachycoventry: i'm really happy that i had two of these in the package that i got, this is an awesome stick that i would enjoy again and again. Depending on the price i would consider adding a box of these to the cooler! I'm betting that this is a dpg with the spice that i got from it! My only complaint is that i smoked this during the day with iced coffee, this would be awesome with a good scotch after a big meal!
tdre977: really enjoyed this smoke, i hope its cheap, cause i'd definitely keep a few of these on hand.

    EDITOR’S NOTE:
These cigars were purchased from Serious Cigars (www.seriouscigars.com). We were not able to find any specials on these, a box of 25 sells for $422.75 with free shipping. The cigars came very nicely packaged in a cedar box. The lowest box price from the December 2010 CigarCyclopedia's Comparison Shopper is $422.75, coming out to $16.91 per stick. The average price guess was $6.32. The closest guess for this round again belongs to Irish79! Remember, the prize pack goes to the person who is closest overall (all 5 cigars). Thanks, buzz.

I don't need to buy any more Davidoff now.

Did I have 2 of those in my set? If so, I believe I had one earlier on Saturday watching the kid play in the yard. I reviewed the second one on Sunday.

Told you I knew what it was....

Fuck, I suck at this game. Did I get 2 of these though?? I think so. But if not, at least I have some Oliva Vs. I'll have to check when I get home from job #2. Speaking of, I should get back to work...

Good thing you didn't have me in this game, I woulda known what this was just by looking at it, never mind the fact that the taste of the wrapper is unmistakeable.

Millenniums are one of my all time favorites. The Lonsdale is my preferred vitola but any size is fine with me.

I had a Lonsdale that I had resting for I think 2 years before I lit it last summer, and that has been one of my all time favorite smokes. I've had a few since and they are incredibly good, which leads me to think I prefer the smaller viotlas in this blend maybe. As I had two Lanceros as well that I really enjoyed, so I might have to sample a few of the bigger ring gauge vitolas to see now.
    Yay! Cigars!

Funny how tastes differ. One man's all-time favorite is another man's 'meh.'

I loved this smoke, probably wouldn't get a box because I'm a broke chump, but Id definitely grab a few to hold onto for an occasion.
