Thread: do you keep an inventory of your cigars?

Default do you keep an inventory of your cigars?

This may sound silly, but does anybody keep a list of your cigar inventory? I don't mean cigar shops, I mean personal humidors. I have about 70 in my humidor right now and can't remember every single brand that's in there. I may just use an excel sheet but are there any phone apps that will do this?

I have a spreadsheet, but I haven't updated it in a couple years.

The best I do is occasionally get everything out, and re-org.

    Same goes for me.
I think it helps me to know what to try out based on things I liked about specific ones.
I also have an excel file for craft beer and the beers I have brewed, I do not update that one as often as I should. I am a "notes" and list type of person though so it works for me, may not be for everyone.

I go through them way too fast to update the inventory. I try to keep notes of new ones that I like and i've made a list of some I need to avoid. I have a small box that I keep the labels from some of my faves.

    Yes, but just for boxes.

Ditto, All that spreadsheet shit and inventory is soon out grown.
I re shuffle my humidors a few times a year looking for buried treasure.

I use a spreadsheet, but not for inventory. I use it for rating, pricing and sourcing and update it after each new smoke.

Nope. If I don't remember I have it, then it's "Christmas" when I find it!
    Yay! Cigars!

I keep a personal review book. The iPhone has apps for this. Some are generic information that you plug in, others can go more in depth on each cigar. That helps me keep records of what I like and what I don't like. As for what I have stocked, I do not. I usually know what I have, because it is what I have smoked before and liked. It is only when I try new cigars or are gifted a cigar that they end up in my humidor. But they quickly disappear. I find it very helpful to keep a list. Most of the time, I find it helpful when someone wants to buys cigars for me (Christmas, Birthday, etc.) and I can hand them a list of my favorites. Just a thought.

    Happy smoking.

I have two databases... one with my humidor content and one with my thoughts on smoking them.

Some good ideas! Thanks for the replies. I think I'll start keeping notes of the cigars that I've smoked, likes and dislikes. I have an Android phone so I'll check to see which apps, if any, are available.

I did when I first started out, but anymore my only inventory is when I open it up to dig through and find one to smoke.

lately I've been writing down "notes" on my cigars I've smoked. small things like burn, taste, and looks.

This helps me when I go to my shop, so I can ask someone to recommend me something based on similar tastes.

as for the humidor, I put things in a specific order, and only really poke around when I've got something new

My fiancé smokes cigars I personally taste them. We always keep an inventory of our cigars since we have a business to run. I have every name and band from each cigar my fiancé smokes. I think if your more of a collector you might keep an inventory just to keep track of what you have and what you don't have. Me and him have a cigar business and we offer the top premium brands and rare cigars so it is crucial to keep track of everything.

Wow, totally shocking that a vendor would keep track of their cigars.

Even before we started selling it was something we did as collectors.
