Large Ashtrays

Hello, I am new to the forum scene but figured I would try it out and show you guys some stuff I've been working on.

I recently saw that there were very few ashtrays that were proportional to the size of a cigar. So I decided to make a large ashtray and see how it looked. This ashtray is made from some douglas fur and walnut I had laying around, which ended up looking very nice. The dimensions of the tray are 3.5" tall with an 11" diameter. The reason for this post is just to see what you guys think of them, and if you think there is any market for this product.

as soon as i saw that ash tray it reminded me of the Hub Cap i used a few times
I got to look and see if i still have it out in my car port where i used it.

I love the look of it, but I'm a practical person. I would assume it would be hard to clean.
I can appreciate nice ashtrays, but it's an ashtray. It's like having a beautiful design on the soles of your shoes.
Stays beautiful if you don't use it, but it's meant to be scuffed.

I have another one I've been using for about a year. It does get quite dirty and will have some burn marks, but it almost gives you a sense of pride from its "battle scars." The pictures are from when it was first made and just now with a 5 minute cleaning.

I like your workmanship! That humidor is beautiful.

Are you interested in making some big ashtrays for sale? If you are, I'd be curious about how much you'd be asking for one the like the one in the pic's above?

What humidor? Did i miss the picture some how ?

All of those items reflect exceptional craftsmanship. Just curious, is the micrometer functional and accurate? Other than the ashtrays, are any of the other items your work? I assume your father or someone else involved made most of these items.

Definitely one of a kind, but too often I see those small brass hinges fail on those kinds of humidors. It really should have a piano hinge.

Rather than creating a lip on the lid to match up with the bottom, I see how you added the piece of cedar to the lid, and that it fits into the interior. I'm thinking if everything is not lining up just right, it might not close well. I don't believe I've ever seen it done that way. How is the seal on it?

I'm actually the one he made that humidor for. The seal is better than all my other 10 humidors believe it or not, and the hinges haven't been a problem. I can't let the lid fall back, as it does not stand open, but it was one heck of a Christmas present! I'm still waiting for one of those ashtrays, though
