Alright ladies and gentlemen, put the kids to bed cause it's time for MEGA Review 5! And the theme this time is...

Jamie and I spent months sorting out how to make this work and we think we've got it figured out. Wait a second, are you reading this without having the above video playing? How dare you. Go click play on the video and then you can conitune reading.

HOW MR5 WILL WORK

We are looking for around 14 participants. The price to play will be the same for everyone, and will be in the range of $55 to $70 (depending on how many total participants we have). Everyone will pay the same amount and will receive 5 cigars. There will be 7 winners (assuming we have 14 participants) and each winner will get a fiver (+/-) prize pack.

Once the slots are filled, we will select two team captains who will take turns choosing their teammates (elementary-school-dodgeball-style). Once the two teams are established, each team will need to come up with a name for their team. The teams will be assigned their own private team sub-forum where they can discuss strategies without the other team seeing.

There will be 5 rounds. In each round, everyone will smoke and review (blind) one of the naked cigars and provide guesses for the Manufacturer, Country, and Price. Each team can discuss the cigar in their private forum. Each participant will start with 1,000 points, then additional points will be awarded as follows:

Manufacturer = 1,000 points if correctly guessed
Country = 250 points if correctly guessed
Price = 1 point deduction for every penny off

The points for each team member will be added up for each round and the team with the higher points wins that round and gets to "vote off" one of the members of the losing team. The member from the losing team who is voted off will continue to review cigars and be involved in private sub-forum discussions, but no points from that member will be added to the team for the successive rounds.

Note: The timeline for MEGA Review V will be strictly followed this time. If you don't get your review in on time your points for that round are forfeited and your team suffers. You will have 2 weeks to smoke/review each cigar (total of 10 weeks) so keeping up with the timeline shouldn't be a problem.

In addition to the 5 guessing rounds, there will be some extra "tasks" available for obtaining points and/or voting people off. Also, Jamie and I will "hide" an immunity idol somewhere in the forum for each round (5 idols total). If you find an immunity idol you will be immune to being voted off for that round.

After all 5 rounds are complete, the team who won the most rounds gets the bragging rights. T-shirts with the team name might be available in the cigarsmokers.com gift shop. The top 4 team members from the winning team who have the most team member points will be awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. The top 3 team members from the losing team will be awarded 5th, 6th, and 7th place. These 7 participants will get to choose a ~fiver from the remaining cigars, in order of their placement.

Note: Even if a member is "voted off", his points will still count towards his personal point total, thus keeping him in the running for the 7 winner prize packs.

RULES

1. You need to be a participating member in good standing, there is no minimum post count, but I will defer to the FOGs for questionable participants.

2. Payment must be received before I send your sticks. Checks are fine but they must clear before cigars are sent. If you send extra money I ain't sending change cause it's a pain.

3. Follow the timeline (will be posted once determined). This time I will not wait for reviews to come in, if you don't get your reviews in on time you forfeit your points for that round which affects your team's performance, as well as your chances of winning one of the 7 prize packs. You will have 2 weeks to smoke/review each cigar (total of 10 weeks) so keeping up with the timeline shouldn't be a problem.

4. Prices for cigars are based on the actual cost of the cigars. After the final round of guessing I will post the pricing information spreadsheet.

5. At the end if you don't like the cigar selections, tough - Jamie picked them out so complain to him. If you like the selections, you're welcome - I picked them out.

It's not all that complicated really. If you have specific questions, just ask. This should be fun as hell....and, I happen to have it on relatively good authority that should you win, you'll have first pick at some pretty nice cigars. You'll get to smoke one of each of them before you select your 5'er too.

About the country of origin; are these all puros? If not, are we to guess the country they were made in?

They are not necessarily puros. The Country guess should be based on where you think the tobacco was grown (keeping in mind that most of the taste will come from the wrapper). Once the blindfolds are taken off if you disagree with our set Countries we can discuss and adjust point totals as necessary. Looking at our lineup, I don't expect any differences in opinions for the Country of the selected cigars.
