Default My job is no more

Well it looks like some of my "friends" at work liked me so much that they sabotaged my computer at work to make it look like I was surfing porn all day so I would get the boot. I have no clue who would have done it. So as of right now it looks like since I have no job to help with my growing love of cigars I will have to slow down on buying. I finally got out of retail and I have no plans on what so ever on going back (if I can help it). So just wish me luck in finding something new and fairly quick.

Omg are you serious? Do you have a union? That is extremely low. Can you ask for an investigation.?

No we don't have a union and there isn't much they could do as an investigation. They say it is on my computer, and that is that. My rep there said she would help fight it for me but there are rummors that others from my agency have had the same fate as me. The place I worked for uses Temp agencies and they all fight to get the most people in. And in my lab 2/3 of them are with the other agency.... Anyway, she said she would fight for me to get back but she said she doesn't like the idea of me going back in there and something happening again.... *shrug*

You might want to consider consulting a lawyer. I was wrongfully terminated from my last job, so I know how that goes! Good luck in your job search, hope you can get back on your feet soon!

I'm glad to say that my current employer does not snoop our Internet, though the last time I was a network manager, the CEO insisted we install a Big Brother program. I refused and was fired for cause. It turns out that I left at precisely the right moment to get into an even better gig, which launched me into the gravy train I now enjoy. Hang in there, man. It was time for you to leave that gig.

Why would you refuse to follow orders from the boss? If the CEO wants to monitor his employee's use of the internet, he has ewery right to do just that.

Sack up and be a man and admit it . . . you were surfing the gay farm animal porn sites all day long. Its OK no shame we have all done it

Seriously . . . either they are making up an excuse to can you for some other guy who is friendly with the boss or some super low schmuck has set you up and earned an eternal spot in hell for this shitty act.

    Good luck on the search.

What possible difference could it make?

This whole thing smells in my opinion. There are laws governing employee dismissal. An employee can let anyone go any time they want, but they have to PROVE it if you are fired for cause. The difference comes down to whether or not you can collect unemployment.

If I were accused of surfing porn and I knew I did not do it; I am pretty sure I could prove that I did not. They must have used server logs to identify your supposed porn surfing. Those logs would have to show that you were surfing during work hours. If you didn't see or get a copy of those logs, then I would. Otherwise, I'd get a lawyer and persue a wrongful termination suit or something.

I certainly would NOT lay down on this issue. I'd persue it. Unfortunately, you have plenty of free time to do just that.

    I wish you luck!

They told me that they would not fight me drawing unemployment. Part of it is my fault I guess. There were times when I would go to lunch and not lock my computer. Live and let learn I guess. My wife wants to move to Reno and see if we can get work at one of the casinos there. She said she would be a dealer and I could work in IT. I really love it here where I live now, but I am really thinking about it. You have to move to where the jobs are, and there just aren't that many here in this town.

Just noticed something.... this is my 200th post. What a great topic for that to happen on 'eh?

Sounds like your just willing to take a layoff/termination and move on to better opportunities. However, I would not leave the termination so open ended. I at least draw up a letter saying that you Deny the accusations surrounding surfing internet porn at work. I might even have an attorney write the letter, just so it's documented. If the only thing you get out of this is a good recommendation to take with you to your next job it will be worth the effort. You don't want this following you to your next employment.
