OK, parading Diablo out for Halloween this week is an obvious choice. But since returning to Famous Smoke Shop after a two-year hiatus, these devilishly delicious cigars have really come into their own, and the latest scores show it. So to help get you into the spirit of things, we hacked $10 off every box, and after a little, shall we say, "shock therapy," the UPS driver has agreed to drop them on your doorstep free of charge.

Achieving Diablo's robust flavor is a torturous process. First, Dominican and Nicaraguan Ligero filler leaves are exposed to the intense Central American sun until their membranes are swollen with rich sap almost to the point of bursting; at which time their limbs are torn from the highest primings of the plant. Next, they're hung by their stems from the rafters of a creaky old curing barn, surreptitiously located far from where anyone can hear their screams. Afterwards, they're cut down and slowly fermented in a mound of bloodcurdling heat. Next, they're bound into a savory Connecticut broadleaf. Not too tightly; just enough to allow the juices to flow and maintain a good draw. Next, black leather-clad Ecuadorian Sumatra leaves enter, and the real fun begins as they enfold themselves around each bunch in a macabre ballet of near asphyxiation. Finally, the completed vitolas are entombed in a cedar aging room like so many little sarcophagi, where the oils leech deep into the pores of the tobaccos, leaf by leaf, until they've ripened into a bubbling brew of piquant perfection. The result is a cigar that's hearty, peppery, well-balanced, and oh so decadent.
