Just returned from a beer run to Belgium. Tonight, as I watch my 9ers take on the Saints, I'll be enjoying some Abby beer...

Dragonmead Brewery: Erik the Red and Under the Kilt Wee Heavy are two new ones I like. Have been on a kick of only local Michigan brewery beers lately.

Up until now in my beer drinking career, I haven't much cared for the Belgian beers - they always seem too light to me, a bit of floral/fruity tasting, and just not really my style of beer.

And then a trusted beer friend I know suggested a St. Bernardus ABT 12.

Figuring I'd give this a valiant effort, I even went out and bought one of the beer glasses it shows a picture of on the bottle, rather than using a traditional pint glass, in hopes of heightening this experience.

While the first few sips (this isn't a beer you would chug) still had that light, floral, borderline bitter taste to it, I eventually warmed up to it. Absolutely fantastic beer!

Any other suggestions in terms of Belgians? I've tried the Chimays and Duvels.

I went to SunUp last night for a special tapping of two cask ales for the local Homebrew clubs. One was a strong Scotch Ale and the other was a Double Red in conjunction with our local Beer Week celebration. Along with the Double Red, I smoked a Gurkha Black Dragon Robusto. Luckily the Red wasn't overly hopped.

    On Tap -
    1. Oak Aged Bourbon Porter
    2. Slightly Smoked Imperial Porter
    3. Black Boar's Blood Ale
    4. Irish Red Rye
    5. Russian Imperial Stout
    6. Mirror Pond Clone dryhopped with Citra
    7. Mirror Pond Clone dryhopped with Centennial
    Primary - Mesquite Bourbon Mead
Next - Just picked up 17# of Wild Flower. Hmmm.

I finally found a place close by that sells New Holland's Dragon's Milk!!!! But it ended up being ~$36.00 for a 6-pack! And that is with a discount!

Looks like I'll be driving to the further place still, they have it on tap and sell it by the jug for about ~$15.00. I'll take cheaper beer that will go flat over the more expensive bottles.

    Yay! Cigars!

Sweetwater 420. Local brew that has really taken off. Anyone heard of it?

My Dad was in a monthly sampler club and we got to try that and the Georgia Brown. I really liked the Brown; the 420 was good, too.

Wow! A lot of people in the SE have never even heard of Sweetwater. That's really awesome. I have an uncle that passes through from NY to Fla and back a few times a year and he always grabs a case or two of 420 to take with him. I agree the Ga Brown is really good, just a little heavy with the sweltering heat we have here. If you like that you should (if you ever get the chance) try their seasonal brews. Again, heavy but damn good.

I generally like my beer "heavy" so if I'm ever in Georgia I'll be sure to check them out.

You can sorta see the Georgia Brown label in the third picture, left of the Boont ESB label

And the 420 label in the fifth picture, about 3 labels to the right of the Packers logo.

Fantastic work!!! No missing that beauty of a rainbow jumping out of the Hooch. Also, you just gave me a great idea for my next set of Cornhole boards that I build.

Here's a couple terrible pics of my 1st attempt. Can't seem to find pics of my Yankees and Jets boards right now.

Private Stock Spirits ~ Pong lite

I made the mistake at my local distributor of commenting on this beer while checking out. I said something to the effect of "Oh gawd...Pong?" Whereupon, he said "Oh, it's not bad "for what it is"" and whipped one out of an open case he had there. I mean, I guess that was nice.

This shit is pure water. I can't taste anything in it.
