Default Cigars worthy of a friend's Engagement.....

Just got a text from a good buddy of mine, that he and his girlfriend just got engaged. They are throwing a party once I get back home. There is about 5 or so that have a cigar with me every so often. So I want to get my buddy and our close friends something good to smoke.

Im going to get 2 sets of smokes, 1 for the party when I get home and another to age for the actual wedding. So could you guys help me out with some recommendations on what to get for both sets. Im gona try and get out to some of the B&Ms here in Miami to see what they have also. I really dont know what to even begin to look for for the party. But for the wedding I think I want it to be something really good, maybe ISOM, Anejo, or the like.

I might have more of a clue as to what I want to get for both tomorrow after Ive thought about it, but I figured I would post now anyways.

Then again I could just get a few packs of Phillies for remeberance of our high school days.!
    Yay! Cigars!

For the wedding, you can't go wrong with something high end Fuente, Anejo, Opus, Diamond Crown Maximus. But I would recommend something in the corona / petit corona size, since weddings tend to take up a lot of time, a shorter smoke would be sure to be enjoyed fully.

For the party... maybe something bigger-ring.

Peach Blunts!!! Oh the days. haha.

I'm not sure where to start with these either. Definately something nice for the occasion would be good. What kind of smokers are they I guess would be something to take into consideration (such as what strength they prefer, etc). I'd say that something like Cohiba's or Hoya de Monterrey would be great. I've seen Cohiba's as engagement presents before and just the name seems to say a lot for people. And it doesn't hurt if you can get some ISOMs.

Don't waste money on non-hobbyist smokers. Seriously, it ain't worth it. A solid every day smoke will make them all happy and if it's got one of the classic names like RyJ or Montecristo, they'll be even happier. If the guy who is engaged actually knows a little something splurge on a nice Ashton VSG, easily available, not overpriced.

My thoughts exactly. No matter what it is, they won't smoke the whole thing. I would probably pick up some cheap ISOMs for the guests. As long as they know it's from Cuba, they won't care and in their mind it will taste great before they even light it. I would just pick the main man something special.

I went to a wedding recently and picked up an Opus X for the guy to smoke at his bachelor party. But noooo, he had to smoke his cigar with genuine Pre-Embargo Cuban tobacco in it.

    I'm looking at you JoeBlow.

I totally agree with BigMac on this one. I also think going with a shorter, smaller smoke is great for the party situation. Guys who aren't regular smokers will appreciate the thought, butcher the first half of the cigar and butt it out halfway through so don't waste your money.

Well I might buy a box of Astral TSVs, as thats the cigar my buddy who is getting married always likes to smoke with me and our other buddy really likes em as well. Have em at the party and keep a few on hand for the bachelor party when ever it is. Then get something nice but not too expensive for the big day. What about a box of RASCC for the wedding?

The more I thought about it and read through your guy's posts, I realized its not what I think would be a good smoke, but what he will think would be a good smoke. Thus why I figure Ill buy the TSVs since he really likes them. And shit, I cant complain either as I really like em as well. So I just need to decide what to get for the big day then. Which I will get something smaller since your right that they wont finish a larger size.

I would go with lighter cigars for the occasional smokers......AVO Classic and Davidoff White Label for the wedding party / good friends. Keeping it simple and elegant.

For my sisters wedding I got a box of Sancho Dlb. Mads. the corona size. It was a perfect size and great for first timers all the way to serious cigar folks.

And they are about 40 a box which is nice.

Rascc for the wedding? Maybe others?

The more I think about it the RASCC or any cuban might not be the best idea. Since he is going to be taking the test for the state police. Not sure how smoking a cuban may affect that, or if at all. But best be on the safe side.

I'm glad you asked this question. I've been throwing around ideas too about what to get to hand out at my wedding. The small size cigar is a great idea. However, since I'm planning on handing the out at the golf outing the day before, rather then at the actual reception. So, I'll probably go with Padron 2000 Naturals and a bunch of cheap cutters. Though with your choice of smokes, you could just always take the bands off of the cigars and tell them they are cuban. I dont know how disconcerning your firends are, but mine would probably never know.

You say there are five or so friends that smoke with you from time to time?, I'm sure they recognize your passion for fine cigars, and might be expecting you to break out the top shelf goods here. I think my initial sugg. of opus may be a bit too strong, but there are some milder Davidoffs that would suit nicely. As for handing out to the infrequent smoker? The Sancho Panza Dbl Maddy thing would be very classy... the looks and taste of those are far beyond their cost.

I was waiting for someone to mention Davidoff. They have fantastic short smokes. Entreacto is what it is called.

Ya I really like the idea of the Sancho Panzas. I could go with either those or the TVS for the party. And then get something else for the wedding along with the leftovers maybe.

Depends on how close you are to your friend that is getting married. I went to a wedding of one of my closest friends last year and I provided cigars for his Bachelor's Party and for his Wedding Day.

At the time, I only smoked toros and churchills, so I didn't have any small smokes for the Non-cigar smokers. It was definitely a waste, but luckily it wasn't any high end stuff.

I did have a special smoke for the groom (my friend) and myself when we had time to be alone and talk about how life was going by real fast. So, that alone time, I pulled out an ISOM for him and an ISOM for myself and we just relaxed. He doesn't smoke much cigars, but I felt that was the perfect time to give him a good smoke which he can enjoy with me.

We talked about how we met in college, stayed good friends, and now he's getting married, soon there'll be kids, etc etc. It was just a good time between two friends.

That's what you have to think about. Give the other guys yard-gars if you want, but if you have alone time with your good buddy, then treat him right. Get that ISOM, Opus, or Anejo. One for you and one for your friend. I'm sure he knows enough not to waste a good smoke.
