Sounds gimmicky to me. I have no experience with beer faucets.
I have Perlick 525SS's on mine and they are definitely worth the extra dollars. The forward sealing design keeps them from sticking if you go awhile without pulling a beer, something that the cheaper taps will have happen from time to time. I've read numerous stories of rear sealing taps that get so stuck they actually break. :smiley5: Hope this helps...
Edit: Just saw the link you posted and I would say that's a good price. I was going to recommend www.austinhomebrew.com but Beverage Factory has them beat on price. I'd say go for it, you won't be disappointed. :smiley20:
Good choice. I'm adding the creamer one when the basement is finished.
Agree Perlicks are the ones to go with. I bought a few from these guys but the price has since come up a bit now $32.50. When got mine ~ 8 months ago they were $25. They offer a chrome version for less $ but I would stick with the SS.
The creamer isn't necessary you can put a nice head on the pour with the 525.

I did this the other week, and have been running the 525SS since last weekend. Works great. Nice crisp action, and is more forgiving to the pourer than my old beast.
I'm still keeping that one, but I took it apart, and it literally had about 25 pieces. Technically looking at it, it's a forward seal design too. Maybe I'll have 2 running someday.:smiley4:
Only thing I regret at this point is getting the combo 4 3/8" shank with it. I didn't research enough to know that's the nominal dimension. Once you put the black plastic lip thing on, and screw on the fitting inside, you lose dimension. I should have gone with something upwards of 5" to get through the wall of the fridge. Ah well, it works.

Glad the tap is working out for you... :smiley20: Do you think the shop you purchased from will swap the shank out? It may be worth a shot.
I got it on Amazon as a 2 piece deal. Ultimately, it was from beveragefactory, so they'd probably swap it out, but I don't care that much. I'm basically where I've been at for years with the old faucet. That one had a all in one shank / faucet design. It just pulls the walls of the fridge together a little.
Ah...I see. If all is well and the beer is flowing, can't say I blame you! Have any pics of the kegerator? Wouldn't mind checking it out... :smiley4:
I aim to please:

Now, if you look closely, that plywood platform is on roller bearings and attached to a frame attached to the fridge. Why? Because I have to lift the barrel about 18" off the floor to get it in. To accomplish this, I have a block and tackle that hangs in front of the fridge. Lift it up, pull the platform out, push the keg over in the air, and lower it down. Saves on the back.

Thanks for posting! I dig it...'specially the "drip tray" :smiley4: Clever way of easing the keg in...those commercial kegs are a bitch to move, that's for sure. You keep your CO2 inside the fridge or out?
CO2 is outside. That way I can regulate pressure (hardly necessary unless I'm down to the bottom of the barrel) without opening the door. I ran a line in.
Opening the door a lot is a problem on this fridge. Every time, moisture gets in there and causes a frost build up on the freezer unit.

That sucker looks really energy efficient! :smiley1:
Very nice set up Will! My kegs just sit out and are not refrigerated... but then again I use cornelius kegs (soda kegs) for my beer that I make. I have been thinking of looking for a mini fridge to store mine. Do you buy that beer or make it yourself? Roger.
It's actually better than our "modern" maytag upstairs...:smiley2: I think it's mainly because it doesn't get opened a million times, and it's smaller volume.
People are always getting rid of chuggers like mine. They think they're less efficient. LOL
Nah, I just buy beer. I'd like to get into brewing eventually, but I've got too much shit going on right now. I do plan on planting some Simcoe hops in the spring...:smiley1:
So that must be about a 25 gallon keg then? How big is it? I know of people in the area who grow hops they are amazingly great growers in this region from what I have seen.
I believe that would last me a good long while! I have only brewed a 5 gallon batch, but Im sure its doable... I could probably brew right in a keg like that. It is not an area that is known for hops, we don't have any production farms on this side of the mountains, but i know some who do grow them near their house and it is amazing how tall they get and how hardy they grow. I know some people who have gone on the other side of the mountains to haul hops for a few weeks during harvest time.
There's some good home brew threads (or at least 1) on this forum. Wild pops in now and then, I think he's pretty serious about brewing.
