Just got a Holt's catalog the other day and noticed a non-cuban Bolivar branded cigar (have I missed these somewhere, or are they truly new).
It looks like they only offer about 4 sizes, anybody try these sticks? What did you think?

If you are referring to the NC ones that have a gold band on them. No, they are not new. One of CA magazines gave a coupon for a free one and it would have been around I think the Sept 2005 issue time frame. From my experience with them, they have a terrible burn. I love Bolivar NC and isom, but I let this NC one rest for a few months and it never did burn right. I havent gotten a new one since. It tasted fine but it was to much hassle. :smiley19:
Sometimes I get out of the loop on what's new and exciting in the cigar world.
I don't know if I'll be able to find these locally or not....if I do I will definitely pick up a few to try out.
The only new Bolivar I know of are the Blk lable with gold writeing/face.
Oscuro fillers I believe or oscuro wrapper with ligero fillers and others in the blend, forgot.
Its an excellent cigar and does not get bitter like the cofradia(the new fuerte). The origional fuerte I never liked. My first was a longsdale type size that had no flavor and was so smooth and mild I wanted to inhale every puff..err...drag.
Bobalouie loves the cofradia and swears by them but I found them bitter and lousey tasteing.
The new Black lable Bolivars are one of my favorite go-to cigars.Full body and very flavorful, burns excellent and has no harshness what so ever.Try them, you wont be disappointed.
These "Click Me" are the ones I'm talkin about.Quote:

Those are not new. I've seen them for a while.
I recently got a toro. It's in the humi, but I will post here when I try it (if I remember).
Two shops in my area cary these bolivars. I've had the one in the glass tubos. The flavor was good, some raisins...and it burned well for me. The only problem was that that flavor wasn't quite strong enough. I have the churchill sitting in my box right now. It will be there for about a month before I smoke it so no verdict there yet. However, the churchill was in the top 25 of 2005 in the Keifer Sutherland Cigar Aficionado.
I smoked one of these Bolivar 2005 Blends this week. It was the toro size. It was pretty good. It lit up very nicely and had a medium draw. It was fairly well constructed; it didn't burn perfectly, but not so bad as to put me off of it. The ash was fairly firm.
I don't remember all the taste intricacies, but I recall it wasn't boringly the same all the way through, it had some change as I smoked it down. (great big help I am, I know!) I would need to smoke some more to really get a good taste profile. On that note, I would order more.

George gifted me one of these in toro size and I liked it enough to pick up a 5er and pass one on to a BOTL to remain unnamed (see post 7!)
(Thanks again, George!)
These Bolivars are not new. They are simply a re-blended version released by General Cigar in 2005. I hear they are a lot better than the old Bolivars. I have a couple of robustos (in glass tubes) waiting to be smoked. They do look yummy with their dark red oily wrappers. :smiley9:
I didn't enjoy these at all. I much prefer the older blend. It wasn't actually the blend that was the worst part though, it was the construction. I had plugs, uneven burn, the need to relight often, and this was across three cigars. I guess its ISOM Bolivar's only from now on for me.
I was gifted one of these at the Quad-State herf. I enjoyed it. Had one of the older Bolivar's and I didn't think mush of it but the 2005 are better.

The wrappers are SUPER oily, atleast mine was. :smiley37:
