Info on this water gel/beads?

Anyone happen to know the main ingredient of these beads/gel things people are mentioning for their humidors? I work at greenhouse and we've got these water crystals that you soak in water, they hold and release moisture/water slowly. Basically they are used for the dry months when plants aren't being watered. Are these pretty much the same thing?

Sorry for the newb question, I did some searching on here and didn't turn up anything other then drymist(sp) tubes? Also went to a few cigar sites and couldn't get a answer either. Other then it looks exactly like what we use.

I did some google searching and hit this thread http://www.cigarpass.com/forums/inde...c=32186&hl=gel ; basically the last post mentions this is the same gel used in the tubes. Except the tubes use some sort of agent to control the mositure.

Right now I've just got a water pillow, and only about 10 AF Flor Fina 8-5-8 cigars in my tupperdor..

Any opinions?

The rh beads are formulated in such a way that the moisture release/absorption is controlled to maintain a target rh%. The beads also function in two directions, i.e. pull moisture out of the air, and release it into the air.........I think this is the difference.

Anybody know how long to keep a pillow in a humi? Many places say that they are supposed to be tossed after a single stint in a travel humi, but does anybody have a time-table for how long a single one will last?

Keep reusing it until it fails. I have some gel jars in my cooler, the same stuff in the pillows, and they say there are good for a couple of months or one recharge.

I've recharged them literally dozens of times and they are at least 2 1/2 years old.

Thanks for clearing that up, I guess I should've read the thread I dug up from google more as well. It mentions something similar. The tubes from heartfelt seem like what I am going to order tomorrow. Thanks for the response.


I threw a water pillow in with my 858s and had it in a airtight container for a couple days now, I threw in one of my many accurite therms/humidity in to see what the reading was I got a reading about 90%.. I know these meters are probably alittle off... but that seems like a high reading?

Do a search for Salt Test........then do it on the hygrometer and see where it is. Yes, 90% is way too high.

Sounds great found some info on it, I'll test it on some of the hygrometers I have.
