Smoking question

I just smoked my first real cigar (see my Cozumel/Cohibo story in my intro post :smiley36:) - I chose an Astral Cameroon Beso (Anybody ever smoked one of these? What's it compare to?) out of what I've got so far, mostly because I've got a couple more of them (I want to be able to smoke it again after I've tried a few others).

Now I've got a newbish question...
How long do you go before you ash?
I was messing around in the garage while smoking it (I don't let my wife smoke her cigarettes inside, so I figured it'd be wrong of me to smoke inside :smiley17:), and was surprised by how long the ash held on - I just kept going till it fell (I'm almost emberassed to post these cell phone pics, one of my other hobbies/interests is photography & these are quite crappy):

Do you normally let the ash get that long, or do you knock it off? The cigar seemed to change a bit when the ash fell - it was a bit hotter & harsher.
