Not Enough Smoke, Too Moist?

So, I've been noticing that when I pull a cigar out of my humi and light up that they aren't producing much smoke and the burn doesn't keep very well and takes some attention to keep going. Are my cigars too humid when they come out of the humi and the moisture is not allowing for a strong burn? Should I be letting my smokes sit out of my humi for a bit before I smoke them so that they dry out a bit? Thanks for the help!

I would think that if they are really moist, they would produce more smoke. Just like how green leaves produce a ton of smoke while dried brown leave produce very little. I could be wrong though.

Probably. Try dry boxing a few smokes for a day or two and then smoke them. If they burn better, there ya go. An old cigar box will work fine to use as a dry box. That's what I use. Just make sure you don't leave them in there for too long. Other wise you'll be smoking hay.

Do the cigars appear to "swell" while you're smoking them.....and the wrappers sometimes split? Both of those are indicators of a high RH. What RH do you shoot for in your humi? Have you calibrated your hygrometer recently?

I shoot for 70%-72% in my humi and calibrated both my hygrometers about 2 months ago and my smokes do not swell and crack when I smoke them. I keep my humidity a little higher because here in Colorado the winter air is exceptionally dry. I will try dry boxing a few smokes of the same line to note the difference between the same cigar dry boxed and just out of the humi.
