Colibri is toast
Anybody else hear this. They went in recievership a few days ago. Colibri lighters are no more...well thats not true. They have a brand name so I wouldn't be surprised if somebody picks up the brand.
Nothing against people that have working colibris but I've had a lot of problems with them in the past. I started carrying lotus lighters and I am much more impressed with them than colibri. I hear they last longer too.

I saw this posted somewhere else, but didn't read it...
Colibri lighters are well made, but they're VERY finiky about fuel quality, and purging is essential before refilling. I have a Colibri Afterburner that has lit nearly every single time I pull the trigger, and has for about two years.
Now, I just buy cheap US Tiger lighters from ebay, I get them for around 5 bucks each. They seem to last a good while, and always light. I also have a bunch of the Ronson Jet-Light lighters that work great, and are only 4 dollars at Wal Mart. No need for me to spend 40.00+ on any more Colibris.

I have a Colibri that was given to me 5 years ago as a gift. To this day I have no issues with the lighter. From others I have talked to it seems like their quality has gone down quite a bit in the last few years.

I got a Colibri as a freebie from CI. It never lit on the first strike and, by the time I used less than half the first fill, it wouldn't light at all. I figured it was a cheap knock-off from all the good press. Perhaps not...

My uncle has a Colibri and has had nothing but trouble with it. From talking to retailers I have heard that their quality has gone down and it's even hard lately to get them to fix your lighter. Most retailers have been recommending Xikar but I would rather spend the money the the smoke rather than the light.

Well honestly its tough to smoke a lot and not have a steady flame. I've had several colibris, vectors, lotus, blazer, ronsons, prometheus...I've tried the lot of them and I wouldn't hesistate to recommend most of these except colibri. They just aren't reliable on a large scale. I'm sure there are exceptions here and there but overall they don't last.
Its sad to see a bunch of american workers losing their jobs in this economy for what is very likely not their fault.
