I got it recently and the salt test is telling me 58%, the temp is 2 degrees higher than what it really is, and when i turn the adjustment knob, nothing happens. Could it be low batteries or do i have a bum unit?
I have that one. After you turn the dial, 1 notch per %, you have to hit the reset button(the middle button) to change it to the new reading. There's no way to change the temp read out.
ok, it didn't mention that the new setting wouldn't show until you hit reset. thanks. i wish it had been calibrated a bit closer, though. i mean, 58?
how fool-proof is the salt test? i have a plastic coca-cola bottle cap in there with iodized salt and a few drops of water. the bag is sealed with no air leaks. does iodized or not even matter?
It's pretty fool proof. Salt and water in a closed environment creates 75Rh. Check this link out. Take note that Sodium Chloride(the salt you are using) is pretty much at 75% across the board ate all temperatures. You might want to re-calibrate just to make sure they was no human error. When I calibrate mine I double ziplock bag to make sure there is no air flow in or out.
Who knows? when it was in the factory the knob may have been turned all the way down on causing such a low reading. At least you have one you can adjust. instead of having to remember to add 17% every time you check it.
in my roo, which i have at 80 degrees, the humidity was at 77%. in the den where it's 73 degrees, the level was 75%. just right. is there an optimal temp to check the humidity at?
Hyrgoset makes very solid hygrometers. I am partial to the round one myself and its all I will use in my humidors.
