Purchasing my first Humi

Hey everyone,

I've been looking at the humidors over at cigars international and I think I've found a little one I like. I've decided to get one there (save on shipping charges) as I'm also purchasing a cigar mold or two since I'm currently growing my own tobacco and plan on rolling my own sticks.

The humidor is called the Cigar Band Mosaic II Humidor - 20 Capacity. It looks spiffy and is only $20.. but thats what has me worried. I'd post a link of it but I'm not sure if it is permitted. If someone could fill me in on that it would be great. Another thing that has me worried is that there isn't a hygrometer. I spoke with one of their representatives on the phone who told me the solution should take care of the humidity level so there is no need to worry. After reading through Lopaka's guide and other thread in this section I'm fairly certain that theres a little more to it than that.

$20 doesn't really make it guaranteed to be a bad humidor, I would suggest though going bigger as you will definitely outgrow a 20 ct. in no time at all.

Thanks for the reply. I would like to go bigger but I don't have the funds for something larger and I'm just starting so if I can find something bigger for around the same price range I would but I doubt that.

Plus, I gotta save a bit of $$ for the actual cigars lol.

What do ya think about not having a hygrometer in it?

Search is your friend. Some terms:
beads
coolerdor

Definitely what Ash said. Look up coolerdor and beads. with beads you really don't need to worry about the hygrometer and a coolerdor is a very simple way to go big on a budget. I have one that cost me $18 when it was all said and done and hold about 10 boxes of cigars.

Dang it MarineOne, you're giving me flashbacks of my Junior DI Sgt. Overstreet.
He would randomly do skivvy checks to make sure we were all wearing them 'according to regulation'. Not inside out or backwards. One time that sticks out in my mind was when he made us drill on the parade deck wearing our cammies inside out and our go-fasters backwards.
Funny now but back then it was horrible. lol

...I too just started smoking cigars and outgrew my 30 ct in appoximately 2 weeks. lol

Sgt Overstreet?

He was at my Ball in 1994 at Pendleton. Even for his age watching him do the Electric Slide was crazy.

No, Sgt. Overstreet was a brand new DI at MCRD in 93 when i went in. (2nd Btln. Plt 2085 Hotel Co)
Small, stalky, muscly black guy that yelled like he was whispering. Funny as heck! He would charge at you like a chihuahua on steroids. Scary when he snuck up behind you. lmao Loved that DI. :smiley20:

I met SgtMaj. Overstreet @ Miramar in 95 I beleive during some walk-through / meet and greet type thing.

Yeah, was a winger. I served from 93-97. MAG-11 3D MAW VMFA-121.
Got to go to Cobra Gold 95 in Thailand and the infamous Pattaya Beach. Oh the memories. lol :smiley16:

I was gonna try for Pattaya Beach (forward party only and come right back) but it was one of those "civil unrest" periods in Thailand's history. I was in Okinawa when you were in boot camp ..... LOL.

I was only at Kadena for about 2 weeks but whew! I got familiar with Gate 2 really quick.
