Loss of smell

Does anyone here use Zicam when they feel a cold coming on? I've used it in the past (don't get too many colds) but the news yesterday was that people can loose their sense of smell with extended use. They've been told to take it off the shelf. Too bad, because the stuff seems to work.

I used the oral version once and it was definitely not worth the nastiness. I've heard that taking zinc nasally was potentially harmful for your sense of smell so never went that route.

I've used it too, and it does seem to work. I've tried different forms - nasal, oral tabs and mists, etc. and have never had any adverse effects. The way I understand the news report is that only the nasal forms will be pulled, but I've only read one story.

That was in the news last fall. Supposedly a small number of people were trying to sue.
