I'm having trouble dealing with the smell that cigar butts leave on my ash tray. Most of the people around me don't like cigar smoke, so I take it outside, but I would prefer not having to leave the ash tray outside all the time (rain and whatnot).
Does anyone have any suggestions for products that easily remove the smell of cigar butts or suggestions for my situation? Maybe I'm just being overcautious but I find that I don't care for the smell either once I'm done smoking.
what type of ashtray do you have, because certain elements absorb sent. What you can do is put it in a zip lock baggy (one of the freezer baggies), and it should seal all of the smell in it. A cheap and easy solution :smiley37:Quote:

Don't think I've ever had an ashtray ever soak up any smells. I have two or three that I use and 2 others that I leave on the coffee table as eye candy. When I'm done I have all my ashtrays inside on the coffee table.
All the ashtrays I use/have coated in glaze. Is yours shiny or flat in its finish?
On the other hand, I've never picked up my ashtray and smelled it but all my friends are non-smokers and never say anything about the room smelling of burnt cigars. I do occasionally smoke inside and the smoke doesn't linger either (probably due to the leather couches and hardwood floors).
My ashtray is flat finished and hand painted. I wanted to find an easier way to clean it because if I scrub it the paint sometimes scrapes off and makes the ashtray look worse and worse. Might just be a terrible ashtray to use as an ashtray.:smiley19:Quote:

$20 you can get the stainless steel Stinky cigar ashtray. I've used it for 5 years now and it has yet to absorb a smell... Or you could probably find a like priced glass one at your B&M. Good luck and let us know what you get.Quote:

Seriously, does bleach not take the smell out? I realize it's a pain, but at some point, a line has to be drawn: either you make the extra effort to mask the cigar smell or your friends will have to accept that you smoke cigars and put up with it.
Ive coated most of my ashtrays with furniture polish after a very serious cleaning. This will act as a small coat over your ashtray, keeping it stank free and making it super easy to clean.

are you putting out your cigars or are you letting them burn out?
it will stink if you don't let them burn out. never put them out like a cigarette just push them to the center of the ash tray and let them go out on their own. switching form cigarettes to cigars i was making this mistake, old habits die hard.
as for ashtray's i prefer a lead crystal one something around 8 inches across and heavy so it don't have much of a chance getting tipped over.
