Smoke: Montecristo No.2
Drink: Yuengling Lord Chesterfield Ale (pre-lent for those paying attention:smiley2:)

Wrapper: ISOM
Binder: ISOM
Filler: ISOM
Draw: Medium
Burn: Good
Misc: Runs about an hour or so

Pre-light: Piramid shape. Veiny and lumpy. Sweet woodsy tobacco scent. Colorado shade wrapper. Sweet tobacco with a slight spice on the prelight flavor.

Light: Easy. Medium draw.

1st 3rd: Took about 1/8” more clip off, and I think I have the perfect draw. Creamy with a subtle spice. Nice mellow woodsy notes and sweet tobacco. Background saltiness. Nice.

Ash: Light gray and dark gray mottled. Tiny ash bubbles. Didn’t record how long it held on.

2nd 3rd: Woodsy. Creamy with that salty background and subtle spice. Good stuff. Medium to full body. Medium flavor.

3rd 3rd: Same profile. Maybe a little more pronounced on the salty aspect, and gaining some strength.

Overall impression: Great quintessential smoke.

I smoked one of these on a recent trip to the Caribbean. I don't remember much as my "mental state" at the time was heavily influenced by rum punch. But I do remember making a drunken mental note that it was deserving of a sober try. Thanks for the review!

Hopefully you got the RIGHT Monte #2. Very easy to get something else other than the right one in the Caribbean - I saw an awful lot of fakes... :smiley3:

Though I was given some Monte #2's in the Caribbean that were definitely fake and smoked incredibly well. I just wished I knew exactly where to get a consistent source of those cigars - they were definitely cheaper than the real ones, and smoked like a dream. Not the same characteristics as a real Monte #2, but definitely very much made from good quality Cuban tobacco.

Real deal

My experience has been that La Casa De Habana (LCDH) is the only place to be sure your getting the real deal in the gulf of Mexico. Otherwise there are several online vendors that are certified vendors of Habanas S.A. (distributor for ALL refugees)

There's a good chance it was fake. I suppose the rum punch fog probably didn't help my authentication efforts. I'll need to track another #2 down, for comparison sakes of course! :smiley20:
