White Star Cigars?

Has anyone tried these cigars? They are a house cigar of a cigar shop up here in Seattle. I am planning ona road trip and was going to pick some up but thought I'd see if anyone has tried them. Here is a cut and paste of the description:

At XYZ Cigar, the cigar of the house is White Star.

Our White Star cigars are manufactured in Santiago, Dominican Republic by a major cigar maker. These cigars feature an Ecuadorian Grown Connecticut Shade wrapper leaf, Mexican binder and a premium filler blend of Central American tobaccos that yield a smooth, mild to medium bodied smoke.

Might pick up a box unless someone has tried them and says I shouldn't. I was unsure of the rules with respect to posting shop names so I changed it.

Might try one first...in case they suck ass.

My experience with 'house blend' cigars is that they vary. Some suck, some are phenomenal. badwhale just did a review of a house blend called Cerberus, and he liked it (I think). logan37 lives near (or at least used to) a shop that sold these crazy Phoenix cigars that I really liked as well. A local B&M I frequent has 3 house blends, but I'd only ever smoke one of them again. I agree with Winston's assertion to smoke one first. It would suck getting stuck with a box of shitty smokes.

With any and everything else, you're going to have to smoke it to decide if you like it.

I actually live closer to that B&M now. I should go pick some of those Pheonix cigars. Thanks for the motivation. I was actually thinking about those about a week ago.

I would stay away from a house blend called "Brown Stars":smiley11:

Sounds like a typical Macanudo clone. Try one first. Twenty-odd cigars that you don't care for will be around for a long time.

Sounds like good advice. I'll pick a couple of sizes and try them.

edit - I just received a reply to an email I sent the store a few days ago and apparently the White Star cigars are from the makers of Macanudo.

Macs are very consistent, have flawless wrappers, and are not what I smoke at the moment ... but that doesn't matter. Everyone has different tastes, and there are a lot of options out there to try. I'd say stick to fivers for quite a while, and avoid box quantities except of something that you know is/will be good.

Which shop? If it's Arcade Tobacco on 5th Ave, I found them far too mild.

I like Arcade on 5th. The couple that run it will follow you around until you've been there a few times but otherwise it's a great shop. With the taxes so hight the B&M's around here tend to be few and far between.

I have ever tasted White cigars I only smoke filtered cigars. I search that these cigars feature an Ecuadorian Grown Connecticut Shade wrapper leaf, Mexican binder and a premium filler blend of Central American tobaccos that yield a smooth, mild to medium bodied smoke. I want to taste. Is this is really different from normal one?
