Hello from ATX

Hi all, from Austin, TX! New to the site and to cigars. I've enjoyed what I've smoked so far, but have so much more I want to try!

Looking forward to diving into the forums and catching up on what I need to know and probably what I don't! :smiley36:

I at first thought hockey stick. APX 2 is a nice one. ATX could have been a cool blade but it turns out hes just a cigar smoker from texas

But I have to admit - the "Hello from ATX" reference is rather strange... Kinda like me saying "Greetings from ORD". LOL :smiley37:

Well at least "ORD" is much more widely known than "ATX.":smiley36:

The Orchard Field Airport has a huge historical meaning in the United States' efforts in World War II to defeat the powers of evil aka Japan, Germany and Italy. WWII history has always interested me because my dad was a WWII vet. The work force and the will of the American people was absolutely incredible back then, we truly pulled out all the stops and the parents and grandparents of people our age George made huge sacrifices during the early 1940's and worked incredibly long days to make it happen. The Douglas C-54 "Skymasters" were built there and the plant was located there mainly because of it's close proximity to the workforce of the city of Chicago. Once the war was over and the huge factory closed, it was turned into Orchard Field Airport and it's three letter IATA designation has been ORD ever since.

I guess I'm just a little old-fashioned and not as much of a hipster. At the present time, Austin is a happening place, lots of opportunities, jobs and a nice place to live, especially if you're young. Now you know me, I think the world of the state of Texas since it's home to my dear Houston Lastros but Austin isn't as historically significant as Chicago in the whole scheme of things.
