I own a double bladed stainless steel guillotine cutter.
Would it be ok to cut the cigar with the cellophane on? I've heard that it prolongs the life of the blade and keeps the cutter cleaner (i'm noticing having to clean mine a lot).
Anyone try or follow this practice? Good idea or no? Thanks for any responses.
I don't think it would hurt. I don't see how it would help either though. The blades are still cutting through and touching the cigar. It is just cutting through a layer of plastic first.
Yeah, seems pointless to me. You're still contacting the tobacco as much as before, you're just slicing through some plastic first. Slippery plastic.

i've heard that if your using a dull cutter, cutting through the cellophane will help you keep a cleaner cut...

I try not to use a dull cutter. I do have an old dull cutter that I could try this theory out on one of my cheaper cigars. The Xikar cutter will cut through anything.
