So, I use Windows Media Player, and for some reason I can't get WMV files to ever work on it. Anybody have any suggestions? Or maybe an even better program?

I never seem to get an error code, It'll be "buffering" and then "more buffering" finally I just turn the damn thing off.Quote:

Edit:
Also, it had done this before. So I uninstalled it, installed a newer version and not much longer it did the same thing. So I'm about to find a better player.
I had a similar problem, but never really found a true fix. One way to actually play those files is to right click on the media file and "Save targe as". Save the entire download to your desktop (or a folder). Once downloaded, see if it will play.
My system did that for a while and I had to download all my files first, then play them. Something was wrong with the buffering. After several windows updates, over several months, the problem has worked itself gone.
Perhaps a bad DLL file, or something along the way. It could also be a firewall issue, as streaming media does come in on different ports. If you are behind a firewall, say at work, sometimes you can't stream anything.
Could be lots of things.... Try the "save" routine and see if that works. If it does, then its NOT a codec...
ET
is your firewall blocking it... if not the file could just be to large but that doesn't seem to be the case.Quote:
