Filling Humidifier
I did a search through the forum on this subject already!!
I am a humidor newbie, and just love this forum on all the great advice everone is giving on all sorts of subjects. I hope this is not a real stupid quiestion, but here goes!!
I purchased a real nice humidor off e-bay and it came in 2 days ago. I seasoned it with distilled water and put a container of distilled in the humidor for 2 days..I have calibrated the analog hygrometer (salt test) and am ready to charge (fill the humidifier). I will get to the beads and the digital hygrometer after X-Mas.
I have the square sponge humidifiers in the black sealed vented containers... my question is, how to I initially fill (soak, charge etc.) the humidifiers with PG sol'n (50/50)???
Also , how do I add more distilled water to the humidifiers when needed?? There doesn't seem to be any filling ports or caps etc.
Thanx for you help guys/gals on this start-up question!!!

If you have the humidor 'seasoned,' there is no special prep work needed for your humidifier. Add the 50/50 solution into the humidifier's vents, wait a few minutes for it to absorb, (you want the sponge relatively damp NOT soaked) and wipe off the excess.
In the future, when your humidity starts to go down pass the threshold you desire, add more 50/50 solution and you should be set.
Welcome to the board btw... :smiley20:

Thanx godfather
I take it that I use a dropper to add the sol'n until the sponge becomes damp, then add distilled later on as needed?? I guess I just try to poke the sponge through the vents to check on softness??
Thanx for the help!!!

i only use pg every third or fourth time...distilled water all other times...
-
do I soak the humidifier in the 60/50 sol'n, or do I use a syringe and add the sol'n through the vents into the sponge??
Thanx

I would go with the syringe. You want it moistened, not soaked.

I use a dropper bottle I found at a grocery store.
Drip a few drops in through the holes and wipe off the surface of the humidifier. If the humidity starts to drop, add a couple more drips. And don't worry so much about it...

thanx for the help so far people!!!
I appreciate it, and hope the comments help other newbies as well!!

Yeah your going to want to use the PG solution only every 3rd or 4 time and never totally saturate the sponge. The PG will absorb moisture above 70% so you want to leave some space in the sponge for that, if it happens. Sounds like your off to a great start.
