They might not be playing any baseball but they are going to get some Maine potatoes. :smiley20: Maine Potatoes
I still don't understand the persistence of this embargo...
We certainly have no problem trading with China...
I thought it was the US reliance on Chinese food, but the recent trend of Cuban sandwiches and mojitos seems to have nullified that theory...
We have a military presence on their island, isn't that enough?
Utterly ridiculous.
The Cuban Embargo does nothing but keep old political grudges alive. To rule out a sporting event that could do nothing but improve relations between the US and Cuba is assinine.:smiley37:
Dammit, we agree on something. Does this mean I need to become pro-embargo? :smiley2: :smiley37:Quote:

Is anyone really up to date on American political science? How about Economics? I would really appreciate your take on the Cuban embargo.
I heard some bantering on the radio last night about fielding a cuban exile team. Either in addition to or in place of a Cuban national team. Seems there's a feeling that if Cuba is allowed to field a team, it would consist of cuban nationals, missing out on a lot of Cuban-American talent...
I say let them all play! Isn't that the spirit of this thing?
It's on....

you guys are nuts. I pray we keep the embargo... prices will shoot up if we lose it.
OK, first of all don't slam me for this, but how would keeping the embargo keep the prices from shooting up? Now I don't know a lot about politics, but I would think that if you have something that isn't illegal anymore to us normal (and I use that term loosely about myself) people the prices would go down. I am wrong in thinking that way?Quote:

The embargo keeps a lot of people in the dark about the mysterious "cuban cigar". If they were suddenly legal in the US everybody would want them. Demand will skyrocket and prices will rise because the more people that want something the more valuable it becomes.
I think there would definitely be a period of madness where people would be running out to get "Cubans", but I think that would die down a bit over time.
I think at least part of the draw of cuban cigars is you're not allowed to have them. Eventually the novelty will die down.
Yeah I agree. I can see the price going up, but once everyone realizes that they would be able to get them anytime that they wanted then it would slowly taper off and the prices would go down in the long run.Quote:
