Heartfelt Beads

So guys, after my issue with the overly wet humidifier starting to get some fungus I bought a tube of Heartfelt Beads. They arrived last week and I think will be great. I had just a couple of questions that some of the old hats could probably help.

1.) I put too much water in the tube the first time, so the humidity is a bit high right now. How do people with the beads in tubes find it is easiest to keep them at the right ~60% clear ratio? I use a small dropper that came with my humidor.

2.) What is the easiest way to read them through the tubing? Will the humidity in the humidor stay at 65% or will it change a bit here and there as the outside temp/humidity changes.

1) You can put a small damp sponge beside the tube and allow it to absorb the extra moisture.

2) When you notice the RH change like 60% then just recharge it. It won't take much...

1: couple of drops, or do what cheese said, but the couple of drops works a lot faster.

2: Take the end cap off and look.

1) I use a dropper; I take the cap off, drip a couple drops in, and shake the hell out of it

2) I just keep an eye on the RH. When it drops, it's time to add some water. If you don't have a hydrometer, the tube is transparent enough that you can see the condition of the beads inside it.

1) I have a small spray bottle I use to recharge my beads. Just spray the beads and wipe off the outside before you put it back in your humidor.

2) Like others have posted....when you see the RH drop recharge your beads or when you see the beads turn white you know it's time to recharge. Heartfelt recommends having 60% of the beads clear. You want some white so they can absorb any extra humidity. Colorado is pretty dry so I tend to keep about 75% clear.

Cool thanks for the tips.. I have a dropper I used before and I notice that most comment on just adding a few drops when the RH drops... I think the first time I added a little much ;). This time I'll add " a few drops" and I should be golden. The RH has only just dropped to 63% on the weekend so it should be good to go...

If you overwet it, there are a few things you can do. If it's the dry season, wrap the tube in a paper towel or napkin and shake the hell out of it. That will get enough moisture out of it that it won't drip on your cigars (and if it's really dry, it'll use the moisture soon enough).

If it's not dry, you can blow it with a hairdryer...

Hey guys, I have a question about the beads. I see on the site that they have tubes that you can put next to your cigars. Are these tubes bought empty and you need to buy beeds and fill them yourself, or do they come filled with beads already. Thanks for the replies in advance. :smiley20:

Both,they sell them either by the tube or by the bag, I bought a couple of empty tubes and 1/2 lb bag. That way I had some tubes for my desk tops and some bulk for the cooler.

so if i buy a tube, they will come with beads in them? could someone paste a link for filled tubes please. thanks!

You are correct, you can buy tubes with or without beads... BK provided the link I believe and you should be able to tell the difference between the full and empty tubes (price for empty tubes hovers around $3.00). They rock.

Oooh, I just noticed they have added a 60% bead selection to the mix as well.

I took these guys advice and bought some beads. It's only been a couple weeks and all my humidors have stabilized out nicely. Thanks to all who made me a convert to the beads.:smiley16:
