Hi there.
I live in Toronto and I have a few boxes of Cuban cigars coming in soon.
The problem is, I don't have a humidor.
How do I keep them fresh for a long period of time?
And if I put them in a frezzer, how long can they sit in there for?

I wouldn't dare put them in the freezer,I would think it would dry them(freeze dry) and when they thaw say hi to soggy sticks.
I would use a tupaware air tight seal with maybe ziplock bag of the cubans inside it.Maybe throw a small piece of sponge wet from distilled water and a small dry piece too.
Just a thought
you DO NOT put them in a freezer....why not buy yourself an inexpensive humidor..that way you can be sure to keep them fresh....if not,try the search function and look up tupperdore...
The cheapest way to go...
Purchase a plastic cooler 20 or so gallon cooler - get a tupperware container - put a piece of floral foam in the Tupperware container. Soak the floral foam with distilled water - pour out any excess water. Place the floral foam/tupperware container in the cooler along with the boxes of cigars. Close the lid. The humidity will remain right around 70%...
Total cost - somewhere around $40-50 (at the outside)...

And the little humidor bags that hold 3-4 cigars are around MSRP $8.00 - the "large" Fuente bag MSRP is $20.00, which is said to hold 50 cigars...

Most tobacconists I've been into usually have some good humidors for sale for around $25-$40.
You can actually put your cigars in the freezer. That is how you get rid of Beetles. Whe you do freeze them though, you have to bring them back very slowly in the fridge for a few weeks.Quote:

Yes,I knew about the freezer to kill beetles but he doesn't have beetles.
Another cheap method I used is to purchase a humi stick.$7-14 and will keep things between 65 and 70% and can use tap water and not need more water for about 6months.Simple buy,drop in water for two seconds a third of the way up the stick,drop in humi,done.Its the size of a corona.

Get a few 2 gallon ziplock bags and throw a couple of 65% Boveda paks into each. No fuss, no muss.
the cigar savor sticks they are talking about can be put inside the boxes that your cigars come in and seal each box in a say gallon ziploc bag and bam your done

Alternatively, you could find a friend with a humidor and store them there. That is what my buddy did when he got back from Cuba... mind you he did give me a few of them in return ;).
Also, if you need any places in Downtown Toronto to purchase stuff, I know a few good stores. You could probably even pick up a not too expensive Humidor somewhere.

The best one I knew of was two doors down of my buddy's place on Queen East in the beaches called "Havana on the Beach" That place just closed. So now I go to these corner stores that have large humidors. I know, it's lame but I got to go somewhere.Quote:
