I got one of these when I got my humidor. First time I used it was Wednesday. I put 2 sticks in it before I left for work at 7:30 AM and when I opened it up for the first smoke at 1:30, it was so freekin dry I didn't even try the second one.
Do these things have to be seasoned like a humi?? Are there any special storage tips I CAN'T FIND IN MY SEARCHES??:smiley8:
Keep in mind the RH in my house is like mid-40's.

a leather case is not a humidor..it does not neede to be seasoned..it is merely to hold cigars so they don't get damaged.....your cigar was too dry when you put it in the case....

Six hours out of a humi, even left in dry exposed air, will not make a cigar unsmokeably (made up word) dry. Did you leave the said leather case on your dashboard in 100 degree plus weather?

I keep my leather, 3 finger cigar case in my humidor. Leather does hold a certain amount of humidity and putting a cigar in a dry leather cigar case will, in my opinion, suck some moisture out of your cigars. No need to season it. Just keep it in your humi:smiley1: I use my case every night and I can keep it out for hours without the cigars drying out. Then when I get home I put the case, and any cigars left in it right back in the humi.

I bought an ostrich leather Atoll case that is cedar lined, including the 2 dividers (holds 3 cigars). Not sure the leather would do well sitting in a humidor all the time. Few ideas:
1. Keep the cedar dividers in the humidor to keep them humidified. That does nothing for the sides, however.
2. Keep a cigar shaped humidification device (beads) in the case. I just got one of these; if I'm only gonna carry 2 sticks, I'll just leave it in, too.
3. Get one of those tough plastic cases that are foam lined and have a little green foam humidifier; just wet it with the 50/50 solution. They come in small sizes; I think I've seen cases that hold 3 or 5 cigars. I also just got a plastic box for about 6 cigars that has a "surgical sponge" humidifier at the top and a little analog hygrometer built in and readable from the outside. Waiting to try it out. Don't think it's cedar lined, though.

I keep my leather cases in one of my coolers when they're not in use. It's pretty dry here most of the year too and if you're not careful the wrapper on a smoke can dry out pretty quickly, causing it to split while smoking.
All that said, an Otter Box is the best way to carry cigars, hands down, IMO

I think the answer to your question depends on how long you're going to be keeping the cigar in the case.
But basically, I would say to leave the case open in a properly humifidied humidor, coolidor, tupperdor, whatever.
As for advantages of a case lined with cedar, probably same as above, depends on the time but it ain't likely you're going to do long term storage with one of those.
On my last trip to Cuba, I saw a street vendor who had cigar cases carved out of Spanish Cedar (at least it smelled like it). I wanted to buy his whole stock of a couple of dozen 1, 2 & 4 finger cases, they ranged from $2 CUC to 5 CUC a piece, but didn't have enough cash on me. When I went back the next day, they were all gone.:smiley13:
