Hello again
First let me again say thanks to everyone who welcomed me to the board earlier. I have been lurking and trying to learn, so doubt I'll post too much. Second, this board is really cool, everyone in the posts I have read seem willing to help us newbies and not just flame us for our lack of knowledge. Lastly, I have a question on some cigars I cant seem to find any info on. I have been looking into a humidor that comes with about 75 Monopol cigars with it. I cant find anything about them or any place that sells them, so I'm really doubting the quality of them. If anyone Has any info, or has tried them before could you share the info on them? I like the humidor, and will prolly get it anyway, just not sure I want to get that many worthless cigars.
Thanks again from Wyoming.

momopol???...never heard of them and they're not listed in the perelman's guide....my guess is that they're a private label.....where are you looking for the humidor??..
....try cuban crafters...their humidors are terrific and affordable...

I was looking at Thompson for the humidor. I used the search tool for monopol cigars and didnt find anything. When I searched thompson, most posts dont have real great things to say about them. I was just looking for a decent moderately priced humidor for about 150 or so cigars. Since I'm a daily smoker I wanted to find a "package" with cigars coming with it.

the link is the combo I was looking at, but after researching on this board, I'm having second thoughts on it.

I have to back BPP up on the Cuban Crafters humis. I have 4 desktops. My first (and best) is from Cuban Crafters. One came from Thompsons. The seal on the CC humi is much tighter. I have to rehydrate my beads only once for every two times I invest on the others.
May I also mention the travel humidor I got from Thompsons? This is a total POS that I have had to modify to make it serve it's purpose. :smiley21:
Beyond functionality, the cherry finish on the three non CC humidors has started to fade slightly whereas the CC unit has maintained it's original lustre.

Monopol is a Thompsons exclusive brand. Here is what they have to say about it:
LINK
Please note that a bundle of 25 of these "noone-ever-heard-of-them, only-smoked-by-people-who-are-used-to-smoking-an-actual-dog-rocket" babies is only about $25.
Also, for that $179, you can get a much larger and just as crappy No-Name-Brand Chinese-Produced humidor that will hold 300 cigars! That's what I did. Now while I may have to charge the beads twice as often, I .....er,.....well, there isn't an upside, other than I got a lot of room for not too much of a price. Besides, you don't really want to pay shipping on 75 cigars that you may have to smoke because you feel guilty. You might even convince yourself they are "good", which would be a REAL tragedy. (Hell, they might even be good, but then, if they were, why haven't we heard of them and why haven't they been put on Top25Cigars.com? I mean Nicole Miller made it there even!)
Just some thoughts...

Based on the lack of information and reviews for the monopoly cigars, I would recomend a different approach to starting up your collection. Usually if they are offering up a smokes/humidor combo, one or both of them aren't selling very well. I would buy a decent humidor(it doesn't have to be top-of-the-line) and some heartfelt beads. Then once you get it seasoned, start stocking up on some cigars. There are a lot of known value cigars that you can get for 2 bucks or less that will probably put those monopoly cigars to shame.
I personally have a set up similar to illilli's, but I'm about to add a small coolerdor for boxes.
