Tonight I found a Romeo Y Julieta Medallas De Oro 1875 in a glass tube behind my dresser.
It was a nice surprise. My question is the cigar has been sitting back there since at least 1999 or 2000. Do they maintain ok in those tubes or is it need of rehabilitation? Or is it even rehabable(sp?) if needed.
Needs rehab. Sticks have probably dried out. The glass only slows the acclimation to the environment, not stop it. Plus, the cork is breathable. You can rehab it - stick it in your humi for a couple months and it'll be smokeable, but not nearly the same quality (oils dried out).
Unfortunately they are probably not even worth saving.:smiley6: if they have been there for 6 or 7 years with no humidification. Sorry
I got curious last night and unwrapped the tube. Itstead of cork it was a plastic tip that seemed to seal very well. I pulled the cigar out and it was not crispy. Still very soft w/o that typical "dry" cigar feeling.
Possibly still decent? Although there was a hint of surface mold but it dusted off easily.
you're probably good to go on it. Sounds like a well aged stick.
If it brushed off and was white and crystally then it was plume/bloom, not mould. That means, like nh said above me, that it is just aged. It's a good thing, smoke 'er up.Quote:

A corked tube would have dried out. The plastic or wax sealed ones are pretty much airtight. Considering it's dark behind the dresser, it should be OK.
