Moving back across the pond
Hello everyone, a new cigar smoker here and in search of advice.
I never really gave much thought to cigars before I moved to Scotland. To me, they were moist wads of acrid smelling leaf clamped between the decaying gums of my defiantly Italian grandfather.
But then I moved from New York to Glasgow last year for work. Shortly after my first review, my boss gave me a Montecristo by way of congratulations.
I mean, what can I say? It was absolutely nothing like the cigars my grandfather got from the bodga. The only way I can describe it, it was like smoking history. When I finished, the spicy, sort of cut grass aroma stayed with me and I had a stupid loopy grin on my face.
Needless to say, my opinions on cigars changed after that. For the last six months, I've been sampling the different varieties at the local cigar store, though I stick to Montecristos and Romeo y Julietas. If I were to say I would have a specific type that I like to smoke, it would have to be Romeo y Julietas No. 3. The aluminum tubes are convenient for me, because I'm not so much of an addict yet that I can justify carrying more than one around at a time. I also like that it is not ridiculously oversized. To me, the 20-25 minutes it takes to smoke one of the no. 3's is just the right amount of time.
Anyway, my contract runs out soon, and I'm going to go back to New York in a few months. This brings me to the purpose behind this post. Castro, god bless him, is still clinging to life so obviously I can't bring back any of my favorites to the states. I wanted to gather recommendations about cigars that are similar to the ones I've described above, but are legal to buy. Any advice you guys can offer would be appreciated.
