Newbie Review #15 Rocky Patel Vintage 1990
It's raining out today so my dog, Thunder, and I did a short walk around the hills near our house while trying to dodge the raindrops. When I was down at Tobacco Republic last week I picked up what I think of as a "Mini-Rubusto" RP vintage 1990. It's a short cigar that's probably not more than 4" long and it has a very small ring gauge. It kind of looks like a fat cigarette. I thought it would be a good 15 minute smoke during our walk but it really surprised me.
Pre-light: There's that chocolate flavor that I like. Easy to medium draw unlike the last RP 1990 I had that was totally plugged.
Once lit it had what I can only describe as the perfect burn. There was never a slow burning side and it never was in danger of going out. The chocolate flavor wasn't really apparent in the smoke. It was just a good medium to full body tobacco flavor. Very slight spiciness but overall it was a damn smooth cigar.
This little cigar produced thick creamy smoke and lots of it. There was no harshness to it at all until I got down the the final inch or so. That little cigar lasted about half an hour and never once was in danger of going out.
Newbie Appropriateness: I'm going to surprise you on this one. Even though it's a fuller body cigar, I think that it's so smooth that a newbie would really enjoy it. :smiley20:
This is a damn good cigar. Get some! :smiley37: :smiley41:
