Cohiba gift set

I did a Search but I got confused with the names for them. The set in question is this

I would like a new cigar cutter, and haven't tried any cohibas yet. My local B&M has this set for 55. Are the cohibas worth it or should I just buy a palio or the Xikar seperatley for less?

You can get that same cutter(Xicar) for $30 or less at times.

It is a neat little pack. For you being so new I would probably just get the cutter seperately and spend the extra money dabbling into the different cigars to find your liking.

I was plannign on getting my beads and hygro for my cooler from Cigarmony after the holidays, so I'll jsut order a cutter there. That should put me at just over $100 and I'll get the 2 count otterbox for free. Woo.

Thanks for the help, I am trying something new tonight when I go bowling I think. The three I haven't tried yet (in my possesion) are the AF Rothschild, Padron 2000, and a CAO Gold. I also Have an Mx2, but I've had that before. Usually when I go to the Burning Leaf I try to get all new things. But I liked the Mx2 quite a bit an bought another.

What to smoke is the question.

you might be a little fresh for cohibas. best way to try new smokes is hop on to the Newbie Sampler Thread, and i hate to do this to you, but sign up at CigarBid.com. as far as beads go, i would go for the heartfelt beads. i know nothing of cigarmony's stock, but 90% of the folks here can vouche for the heartlfelts. do a search on it, you will find plenty of happy customers.

Sounds like you're off to a good start.

I am already planning on the sampler thread once the holidays are through and people have the time. You have to be 21 for CBid, and I'm, well...not. so that kinda sucks. I pretty much can't buy online except for a couple stores.

Well at least a similar product.But i got that gift set that you posted for my brother for x-mas. Kinda new,a dn has a single blade cutter still.

I have been eyeing a Cohiba Black the past few times I was at the B&M, but I don't know if I can get over the price of it. The Sopranos i bought cost $10 and I didn't like it much. I just finished it cause it was $10.

Its funny cause I had a cheap single blade cutter, and it broke, so I bought a stainless Double Blade, and that was before I decided I was going to continue smoking. Now I am just looking to upgrade to a nice double blade.

Anyways...I guess I'll just buy the cutter seperate and buy a couple new smokes. I have to resist buying things I already like so I can try something new. I ended up smoking the Mx2 tonight instead of the others I haven't tried before.:smiley24:

i said nothing negative about him nor his business. i've had experience with viper, as have many others on this board, and shared my good feedback with him. i believe i took it easy.

:smiley36: I personally have not smoked one. I have two (ISOM) in my humi. From what I have read, they are more full in body, and being a newb, i'm still in the medium phase right now. I will smoke one soon, possible this week.

Another thing i have read is that Cohiba's are best aged as you will get a "grassy" taste if smoked to young. If you let them age, as with anything, it mellows and blends. I, cannot speak on this for myself, but read this from a trusted BOTL.

Plus, for the price, you could spread your money around alot better.

Oh, OK.

Doesn't the "grassy" taste apply to all young ISOM's? I have read here that they go through a sick phase where this taste can happen, and that it does go away with aging. Although in my newbiness, I am not sure I can even properly identify a "green" stick,....I just know from notes that I take when trying different cigars if my experience with a particular cigar has improved over time.

I usually pick up 2 sticks when I get new ones, I smoke one relatively soon after I buy it (a week or so) and let the other sit for an additional period of time before I smoke it just to see the difference. Since I only started smoking in July, I have some that I have only smoked the first one and the other is still sitting there. Mostly the ones that I didn't just love on the first try.

I have never smoked an ISOM, but thanks to CLS515, I have a partagas shorts with 1yr of age on it all set to go tomorrow!!:smiley20: Should be firing it up about 2pm.

What I believe you did was steer a potential customer from Cigarmony over to Viper.... What you should have told him was to check with some of the guys (who have been here and other BBs alot longer than yourself) as to how good Cigarmony is....

LoL you guys...
I've seen some of Mark's (Cigarmony) post around a couple other boards when I was jsut reading, and he seems like a good guy. His beads are more or less the same thing as the viper beads, however he has a nice package that has a Digital Hygro, 8oz of beads, and a calibration kit. I am probably going to upgrade the package to a pound of beads jsut to have some extra.

Hey, Chris - You're fairly new to this whole cigar thing - and while your enthusiasm is great, you really gotta know a bit more about the community before you start pointing people in different directions.

Your advice is not necessarily all bad in this case (but obviously Tommy and I do see some holes in at). To me, it's kinda like a New Yorker who moves to Chicago, been there a week, and is giving out directions. It's just destined to go bad...

edit to shamelessy plug venders: I've gotten beads from Viper and they rock, never done buisness with Cigarmony but from reading up on herfs and judging by his rep from other BOTH, sistah's too, he is a good guy. Obviously your choice, but you cannot go wrong with either one.

Chris, your enthusiasm is contagious and really welcome for a newbie. It's what this community does for newbies. But you do need to be careful as to what you say. Those just coming on the board don't know whether you are new to the board or the hobby. All they know is that you've been here longer than they have, and to a new smoker that makes you an expert. I have learned a lot in my time here but I still consider myself too new to cigar smoking to be giving out advice on what sticks people should smoke. And when I do write an article on something that might help others it is something I have experience with and/or have researched thoroughly.

Keep up the enthusiasm and keep up the newbie reviews. But remember there are plenty of folks here in a position to give out advice that has been gained over time through first hand experience. And they are very willing to share with us newbies.

He was in no way pulling a "Scotty" who would lead readers to believe he had first hand experience with cigars when in fact he did not.

From time to time we've seen blowhards on these boards who love to hear themselves talk when the fact is they have no idea what they're talking about and maybe I'm missing something (though I highly doubt it) but I don't think Chris falls into that category or deserves this condescending lecture Shelby.
