Hey everyone. I'm going to Dominican republic next month and I plan on bringing back a bunch of cigars. However, I only have a small humidor. If the boxes are sealed can they be stored outside of a humidor? If they dry out, will putting them in a humidor revive them, and will it affect the cigar negatively? Thanks for the help. This forum looks really nice. I hope to learn more about cigars!
Just bring some big (1 or 2 gallon) zip lock bags with you and some unactivated water pillows (these are little humidifiers that you can activate when needed). I recommend scouting out what you want and buying it close to the end of your trip, put it in plastic bags and bring them home. Once home, fill your humi and move the extras to tupperware, if singles, or to a cooler if boxes. You will still need a humi device in the tupperware or cooler.Quote:

I'd say, while your in the carabean it doesn't count that much if you buy them in the beginning of your trip or not, since the carabean have the requested climate foir cigars.Quote:

But, once home, if you keep them out of your humidor for some time, you can revive them by putting them back, as far from the humidor device as possible...don't forget that once a cigar is dried out it takes +/- twice the time you left him out to revive him.

Storage outside the humi: Depends on where you live (see #1, intro). If you live in the caribbean, sure, why not. If not, for long term purposes, it's good to have them in a controlled environment - that's why when you go to a retail store (B&M), you find single sticks and boxes in the walk-in humidors.
If they dry out - and you don't very quickly realize and rehumidify them, they will taste different, more bad than not. Bad idea.
