How do I find what I like (or what makes cigars similar)

One thing that I've been trying to figure out as a noob is a good way to find cigars that I will like. Obviously, the best way is to try a lot of different kinds. But after I find a cigar that I like, how do I find more like it?

I guess what I'm wondering is what tends to make cigars similar?

As an example of what I'm talking about, I had an Ashton, Double Magnum, Cedar, Dominican Filler, Connecticut Wrapper cigar the other day that I really enjoyed. If I wanted to find more cigars like this, should I try: more ashtons? More cedar wrapped? More from Dominican republic? Etc.

Obviously some of this would be me isolating the elements of the cigar I liked, but sometimes I feel like there are so many variables that it's hard to figure out which ones stood out.

So what I guess in addition to asking in general what makes for similar cigars, I'm also wondering if there are any characteristics that you guys find you gravitate towards (region, wrapper, brand, etc).

I would look for cigars with similar characteristics (wrapper, filler, etc.) For instance, I recently discovered I like cameroon wrappers. So, I've started purchasing more cameroon wrapped cigars. There's a good thread about wrappers and their different characteristics on here somewhere. I have it bookmarked at home.

Something else that might help you out is on CI.com if you look up a cigar and scroll to the bottom, it will show similar cigars. Don't know how accurate it is, but it might help.

I'd go to your local b&m and tell them what you like, the smokes you have enjoyed and ask them for help picking some smokes out of their inventory that fit your descriptions.

My own personal suggestion would be to get a couple samplers of different cigars. It’s not bad to get other cigars that are similar to what you like to smoke now, but you would be missing out on many cigars that you may like better and enjoy more. I know if I stuck to the cigars I liked when I first started, I would have never smoked or even tried some of the ones I like now. Try and smoke as many different cigars you can and you’ll probably find out what you like and will have a large variety of cigars you prefer.

I have to agree with nhcigarfan I am rather new to cigars myself so what I did was smoke different ones untill I found a couple I liked then talked to the guys at the b&m explaned what I liked about them & why i didn't like others. The recomendationes they had where on the money. Even still I buy my fav plus something new.
