Clueless boobs

Hey all, just wanted to vent my frustration at the ignorance of some people (the "boobs", you don't think this was about jubblies did you? :smiley4: ) regarding cigar smoking.

At christmas my brother recieved a dozen piddly little seniorita sambuca solo cigars and shared them out at the table. Myself being the only one who knows how to smoke gave some sound advice only for my father to butt in:

"this is how you smoke a cigar!" at which point he proceeds to inhale deep and long like it was a cigarette before choking and coming up with some retard excuse.
Then the pair of them (brother and father) smoke the damn things down till they were burning their fingers on the ash. My brother then proceeds to utter the ridiculous words
"the last bit is always too harsh" but he smokes it anyway! I do tell them not to.

The other friday I enjoyed a nice fat nicaraguan robusto and left about 2 inches as it was stale by that point. I didn't take the ashtray away before my old man got in from the pub and he saw the nub and said "are you going to smoke that?"

"no" I said. "it's dead"

(Listen, because this is the important part.)
My father - "but there is some left..."

My father and brother both smoke ciggies, probably over 30 a day each so they instantly believe they are the gurus of smoking any substance ever in the history of the planet.
Does anyone else have to suffer this kind of annoyance on a regular basis?

You seem to come off as a prick yourself. Mostly its about smoking and enjoying cigars. If you are all anal about shit such as what you posted there are a couple of cigar poser boards out there where they get all into "cigar smoking poser ways"

You can't get caught up on others ignorance or the way they smoke. I get cught up in the BOTL's with tremendous amounts of true knowledge. On the slight chance that maybe, just maybe something they say will click. I have a problem tasting what many others taste. Try as I may, I just keep having a hard time. Maybe one day my pallete will surprise me. Don't get me wrong, I know a good cigar for me when I smoke. I just can't seem to describe all these subtle flavors, I read about. Other than that, just enjoy smoking. My .0000005 worth.:smiley41:

I think my problem with this is: I want others to fully appreciate Cigar smoking not just think of it as smoking a large expensive cigarette and huff away.

If somebody gets satisfaction and enjoyment out of chewing a dry cigar, then I say, let 'em chew. Smoking is an individual experience and they are enjoying it in their own way. Be happy for them.

a chance to have some conversation with your friends...."hey guys....you might enjoy the way you're smoking those cigars...but,try this".....explain things to them...maybe it's as simple as that.....tell them the differences that you've discovered....see if you can change the way they're smoking them....try it...it may work...

I ain't saying a word. My mates tend to know what they are doing with Cigars though so that is no problem. I just dislike when my old man thinks I am wasting a whole cigar because I leave it when it is finished.

Don't sweat it , next time tell him you saved the best part for him.

Here's a story for you - not my own, but there's no harm in retelling.

The hero of our story is in a bar, enjoying a cigar. A group of young men come in, celebrating something or other, and pull out some premium cigars (I forget what they were - Montecristo or something like that). Our hero watches in horror as they peel off the wrappers and light up.

"What are you doing?" he asks. "Why did you just peel off the wrapper?"

"It's the wrapper," one of the youngsters replies. "Aren't you supposed to unwrap it before lighting up?"

Like I said, not my story. But the guy I heard it from insisted that it was the truth.

A guy I work with likes to feel he knows quite a bit about everything. He's a cigarette smoker and likes to talk like he knows about cigars. I'm at a bar with him one night and I pull out a cigar and start smoking it. He notices that I'm not inhaling and makes comment on it, so i tell him "You don't inhale cigars." He proceeds to tell me that he knows all sorts of cigar smokers in the south and all of them inhale, "All real cigar smokers inhale." Now this seems in re-telling like it could have all been some sort of joke on his part, you know trying to get me to inhale and such but, this was not the case at all. He was totally serious.

Of course this is the same guy who thinks Macanoodles are the best cigar in the world.

You must be more able to bite your tongue than me. I couldn't resist telling someone like this they don't know shit about cigars.

Arrange to meet him and some buddies for a beer then hand him an Anejo or an LFD and ask him to show you how it's done, :smiley15:

My biggest gripe is people going into my humidor and ROLLING cigars to their ear. I try telling them that they risk damaging the wrapper but they always claim "Thats the best way to tell if a cigar is in good condition" :smiley7:

Also its frightening how many people I offer to cut cigars for and they say "I'm smoking it leter tonight so I'll wait and bite it off then". I always shudder at the thought of how they will damage the cigar but I did know 1 guy who could do this flawlessly every time so MAYBE they have the knack. (though 9 times out of 10 I'm convinced they just think it looks cool)
