Dark ash, which produces brownish smoke, which produces bitterness

Anyone know if Humidity or some other factor causes a cigar to produce dark brownish/black ashes instead of white ash? I smoked a Cusano Paired Maduro Robusto last night and it was alright at first, but then it started getting bitter and I noticed the ash was brownish (not the normal black/white combo). Also, the tobacco burned blue, but at the end, instead of greyish smoke coming out, it was really distinctly brown smoke. Plus, it produced a bitterness taste.

Was it just that cigar or should I be looking into my humidity and temp? I didn't have a problem with my Gurkha Regent a few days ago and it's sitting in the same humi as the cusano. I'm just really curious as to what causes this brownish ash and bitterness taste. Plus, the ash didn't hold too, it just breaks. I'm hoping it's just an isolated incident.

Sounds like the cigar was rolled with immature tobacco to me, I am pretty sure that could account for the symptoms that you describe.

Purge the cigar if it gets bitter.

Yeah, I figured it was just that one instance where a cigar wasn't rolled up right or the tobacco wasn't up to par.

I didn't think about purging the cigar, it was just a robusto size, so I really didn't miss anything.

I did smoke a 5 Vegas Limitada 2006 the next day and it was PERFECT. So, that definitely redeemed that one bad smoke. BTW, I would recommend the 5 Vegas Limitada if no one has yet to try it, IT WAS GLORIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
