Eating and smoking cigars

Is it better to take on a powerful full-bodied cigar on an empty or full stomach?

Here is the dilemma. I am relatively new on smoking cigars. I've had some good ones, and I'm still looking for an ideal smoke. I tend to favor cameroon wraps and fuller bodied cigars. However today I asked the local shop what was the most powerful cigar he could offer me. He recommended the Opus X, which IMO I never thought would be a powerful hard-to smoke cigar. He claimed someone vomtied while smoking it. So I decided to buy one and he told me to smoke it on a full stomach. I don't know if he is trying to fool me or not, so I decided to cunsult the forum.

Ive noticed if i'm smoking a cigar thats a bit too full for me to handle it doesnt kick my ass as badly if ive got a full stomach...


but im sure its different for everyone...

he's right. i almost never smoke a cigar on an empty stomach. but the person who blew chunks from an opus probably inhaled or was very new to cigars. if i were you, i'd try out some cheaper cigars before moving to the high dollar cigars. i bought a lot of $10+ cigars when i first started smoking and didn't really enjoy them as much as i could have because i hadn't developped my pallette.

yeah i made the mistake of having one with an empty stomach and i regreted it.

I've been smoking for about 7 months now, and I went from cheap 1$ cigars at the truckstop to CAO flavors and Acid cigars; and then to some of my favorites like Fuente No. 2, alot on the Ashton line, CAO MX2 and CAO Cameroon, and things of that nature. I believe that the salesperson didn't think I have had too many cigars in my time, when in fact I believe I have had alot in the 7 month period. I am expecting the Opus X to be one of the tastier cigars I have had and expecting it to be a great full-bodied cigar. I believe I've developed my palette and am tasting newer and more intense flavors from cigars and learning to appreciate every taste.

The Opus X is a good full bodied cigar but I wouldn't say it is full of flavor like some others. I like the Ashton VSG its full bodied and loaded with flavor. Plus cheaper than the Opus X.

The Opus X was one of the best cigars I have had in my youthful venture. I had no problem, contrary to the salesperson, with smoking the cigar. After discussing what I am looking for in a cigar, he recommended (quite ironic to tx_tuff) the Ashton VSG. I purchased it, and cannot wait to smoke it.

More relevent to the original thread, I now see that smoking on a full stomach is more comforting than on an empty stomach. Also I like to have the full feeling with the taste of the cigar lingering in my mouth for hours.

If you're gonna smoke full bodied cigars eat first. If you get a nasty cigar buzz eat something sweet like a candy bar or Coca Cola. The sugar seems to tame the buzz. :smiley11:

I agree with sarge-if you're new to smoking, tackle it with a full stomach. It also wouldn't hurt to work your way up to the full-strength cigars. I'd start out with Baccarat and Macanudo. Then progress up to the CAO Gold and some naturals-then take on the big and bad maduros. But if you're brave, throw caution to the wind and take on the big boys with a full stomach. :smiley20:

If youre looking for strong, stronger than the Opus X Id suggest the JdN Antano. Definately eat before smoking this, sit down when youre smoking this and keep some sugar handy.
