Newbie..lost cause or hopeful prospect?

Hi everybody..

I'm a newbie from CA. First off, my complements on this great forum. I've been doing my share of searches and they've yielded lots and lots of good info. You people seem to really know your stuff...it's almost intimidating.

I am wondering if any of you have been through the same experience I'm having. I quit smoking cigarettes a couple years ago, so I thought I'd pick up cigar smoking to fill the void. Surprisingly, quitting smoking after 16 years wasn't a problem. The only thing I missed was the social aspect and enjoying a smoke while having a drink or a cup of coffee. I am totally confident there's been enough time in between quitting, that cigars won't lead me back to cigarettes.

So I started buying some of the internet samplers over the last month. I've recently been smoking one every other night or so. However, I've been starting to inhale these things little by little. I know this is a no-no, but I really enjoy it. I'm to the point that if I try and be disciplined and not inhale, it's just a mediocre experience. Funny, because when I first started I wasn't inhaling at all and was enjoying them. Anyone else find themselves in same situation? Should I just pack it up and stop because I'm a lost cause and not worthy of this pastime?

welcome to CS! thank goodness you stopped smoking cigarettes. try the Newbie Sampler. i haven't tried it but i've heard good reviews about it. AND DON'T INHALE, it wil make you very sick. I've inhailled a couple times and i was spewing barf for an hour.:smiley11:

You sound like a recovering alcoholic that has given up drinking a fifth of JD a day, and switched to drinking a case of wine a day. Smoking, no matter what "form" (cigars, cigarettes, hey, even weed), is bad for you. You sound particularly at risk, seeing as how it could A) cause a relapse, or B) lead to something even worse (inhaling cigars like you would a cigarette [bleegghhh]).

Can't imagine inhaling a strong cigar. Maybe inhaling a little bit of smoke from a weak, mild cigar is do-able without gagging your head off. Try inhaling a full bodied cigar they way you would a cig or less legal smoke & see what happens. I know guys who inhale convenience store stuff a little and they can't handle a "real cigar" even not inhaling. Try a strong cigar and inhale a LITTLE, LITTLE smoke through your nose. When your nostrils stop burning and your eyes stop watering, let us know how you feel.:smiley15: And welcome from SC.

Stop inhaling at once or this could be you!

Get you a fiver of Camacho Coyolars and try inhaling those, that should cure it. If that doesn't cause you to cough up a lung, you're hopeless.

On a similar note, I used to enjoy cigars without exhaling the smoke through my nose. Now, I find that I don't enjoy them as much if I can't exhale a portion of the smoke through my nose.

Welcome from Canada. My tobbaconist inhales a little when ever he smokes. And he smokes a pack of cigarettes a day too. He can't see how I would enjoy my cigar without inhaling... To each their own.....

I don't think anyone on this board will judge your worth as a person based on how you choose to smoke your cigar. Smoke 'em how you want. It's just a cigar.

If you have a nicotine addiction or other health concern, maybe you can discuss it with a professional in the health care field.

fwiw: Personally, I can't inhale cigars (my lungs would explode) and I just don't like cigarettes.

Thanks for the welcome and good feedback. I haven't got sick so far, but perhaps the cigars have been mild. I'll give some strong cigars a shot to see if they'll put me in my place and get me back on track. (I can't go back to becoming an addict).

I've inhaled a couple of time, it definitely brings out the flavor more, BUT I try not to do it too often. Maybe once every 10-15 smokes I'll inhale 1-2 puffs. It's really not good for you. Pure tobacco and no filter. One cigar inhaled could be like 2-3 packs of cigarettes.

Definitely get one VERY FULL-bodied cigar and try to inhale it. You will definitely kick the habit of inhaling cigar smoke.
