humidor help!

Hi first off, im new to this forum. I signed up a while ago but have never posted. My names Ryan i've been REALLY into cigars for only a few months but have smoked a few cohiba's and montecristo's about a year ago which got me hooked. I really picked it up this christmas when my parents bought me a humidor. So i am very new to this hobby, BUT i love it.

So i seasoned my humidor as i was told to by many websites and people. BUT my g.meter says im at about 45-50%. I soaked it with distilled water with a CLEAN sponge then put the sponge ontop of a plastic bag and set it in the humidor. I then put some PG solution into the humidifier and set it in there. I calibrated my g.meter with salt and tap water inside a bag and calibrated it so it was at 75% (did it twice, once more after calibrating it the first time). It has been maybe almost a week now. It was at 60% then dropped down to 40% now its up to about 45%. Any tips? Oh i also put in some distilled water maybe 2 days ago hoping it would help. Any help/suggestions or letting me know i messed something up would be nice. Thanks guys.

Sounds like you are doing everything right. I'm sure I won't be the first to suggest this, but get yourself some beads from Heartfelt Industries. They work a whole lot better than PG solution.

The other thing you should do is check for leaks in your humi. Put a light in it and place it in a dark room. If you can see light you probably have a problem. You can also try wrapping the whole thing in a black trash bag (remove all the air) and seeing what happens after a few days.

so do you just stick the whole tube in the humidor? or do you drip some into the humidifier?

Just moisten the beads with distilled water (about 50%-70% of them - they are white and turn clear when they are hoiding moisture) and put the whole tube in the humi. It replaces your current humidifier. Instructions are included. Just make sure you don't saturate the beads. You want them to be able to absorb moisture if the inside gets too humid and saturating them with water will prevent that.

I am having a very similar problem. After a couple of weeks of trying 50/50 distilled water-Glycol solution, I am only up to 64%, though I did manage to get the temp. pretty much perfect (about 70-72 degrees).

I might try the Heartfelt beads. What's the difference between the 60, 65, and 70 Ph Beads, is this the level of humidity that the tube is designed to maintain?
